The guy trys to do right by their daughters, nothing wrong with that, every father would do the same in his place. It is everyones personal choice what kind of dog they will choose, not everyone needs to or should have GSD.

Well if his daughter has allergies this is one of the breeds to try, not all are hypoallergenic, but at least those little girls will have a puppy!  Every child should have a dog in their life!

the truth be told all breeds are 'designer dogs' - how quickly we forget but a mere 100 yrs the gsd was being designed. 

imo nothing wrong with any dog as long has the breeder is breeding healthy and happy dogs what's the problem.   i do have my personal favorites: gsd - my all time favorite, then there's the tibetan mastiff,  great pyr/kuvasz, card. corgi  and from growing up german shorthair pointers & poodles (dad & granddad were big hunters:) ... to list just a few  

i love all dogs and love that in america we're free to choose whatever type of dog we want; and anyone is free to stand in judgement of that choice, but regardless of the opinions of others the right to choose can't be taken away - so - yea freedom to choose!  

bottomline for me is if the obama girls looked into different types of dogs and decided they want a goldendoodle then let them have one, like obama said - they have earned the right to have the dog they want. after such a crazy year what fun for them to be getting a new puppy

lets hope the new first dog has better manners !
