With 25 letters of commendation, two awards, and nine years of service to the Prince George’s County Police Department in Maryland, Stephanie Mohr does not sound like an officer who should be spending years in jail away from her young son, Adam. Unfortunately, this is already Mohr’s fifth year of a prison sentence that she does not deserve. With your help though, we can get this innocent officer out of jail and reunited with her son. This is the last chance that we have to help Stephanie. In September of 1995, Mohr was on patrol with her police dog- Valk. She was patrolling Takoma Park, an area that had been known to have many recent burglaries. When Mohr and her partner, Sergeant Anthony Delozier, got a call for backup from an officer who had spotted two men on the roof of a nearby store, they knew they may have found the criminals. Ricardo Mendez and Herrera Cruz were the two suspects who were ordered to get down and face the wall. Mendez then made a move that looked as if he were about to flee the scene. As Mohr had been trained to do in this type of situation, she released her canine. Valk, the police dog, was trained to perform the police department’s standard “bite and hold” and that is exactly what he did. The dog bit Mendez on the leg and held him there until the officers could apprehend him. Mendez and Herrera were convicted of 4th degree burglary and were then deported. The two illegally re-entered the U.S. again and were arrested for selling crack cocaine. They were then deported a second time. Stephanie was relieved that she had gotten these two criminals off of our streets and back to their country. She soon gave birth to her son Adam and was a proud mother. Unfortunately, her joy did not last very long. Five years after this incident and one day before the statue of limitations was set to expire, Mohr was indicted by the U.S Department of Justice. Looking for cases of “police brutality” the U.S Department of Justice indicted Stephanie and two fellow officers charging them with conspiracy charges and violating Ricardo Mendez’s civil rights. At the trial, Officer Mohr was found not guilty of conspiracy. A hung jury, voting 11 to 1 in favor of Mohr failed to reach a unanimous verdict on the civil right charges. The prosecutor sought a retrial that was held in 2001. The trial was scheduled even though the jurors from the first trial said that the case lacked merit. At this trial the prosecution convinced the jury that Mohr had released her canine on innocent minority citizens. In this second trial, the judge allowed prejudicial testimony into evidence that Mohr had used racial epithets in making a prior arrest using her canine. The charges did not start out as r by hgsd on 06 November 2008 - 19:11 Tell us what we need to do to! This makes me sick. The BAD guy has the Rights. Someone point us in the right direction. ![]() by snajper69 on 06 November 2008 - 19:11 There are always two sides to a story. ![]() by Rugers Guru on 06 November 2008 - 19:11 Well this one was cut off.... Whats the rest of the story?? by Uglydog on 06 November 2008 - 20:11 Stephanie’s 8 year old son has now spent the last 5 years of his life without his mother by his side. The Suspect – an illegal alien from San Salvador – was Convicted of Selling drugs and deported. ---- But outrageously the prosecutor brought him back, at Public expense, to Testify Against Stephanie. by hgsd on 06 November 2008 - 20:11 Which side of the fence are we working dog people on? by 1doggie2 on 06 November 2008 - 23:11 Excuse me, you are pointing out 2 sides to a story> they are on a building late at night, they are not doing work there to secure a leaking roof. I am sorry, enough is enough! Crimnals have no rights!!!!!!! I want to know who you plan on calling when someone breaks into your home and there are no police because they do not want to be killed or go to jail for protecting you... Again as was pointed out. WE ARE BROKEN ![]() by Princess on 07 November 2008 - 00:11 Im confussed what is this? why dont the police depts protect officers who they chose to go into K-9. My dad is a retired police capt in the miitary , this would not have happened, its a no questions act. These dogs are trained to obey and do their jobs, they there to protect the public and officers .Its up to the officer to use them as needed, and it seems she needed her dog. Im applaued, her in jail for doing her job , attack and hold means just that, not kill. If her judgment was bad it is call being fired. Police Depts should be liable with insurance, not leaving an officer open to personable liability.weather the officer is bad or the dog ,the city is responable for there choses, and training. I would like to know what happened to the dog .? Ill be glad to sign what ever there is, to release her and get her back to her family ,to high a price to pay for a job. I though we trust them to know what they are doing. by gsdk9va on 07 November 2008 - 02:11 I LIVED IN THE AREA WHEN THIS HAPPENED, SO I REMEMBER THIS STORY. A COP FROM ANOTHER JURISDICTION TUNRED HER IN BECAUSE SHE WANTED TO GET HER DOG A "BITE" ON SOME ILLEGALS THAT DID NOT RESIST ARREST. THIS CASE IS EASY TO RESEARCH TO GET THE FULL STORY. SEE BELOW FROM THE WASHINGTON POST, THEN YOU DECIDE. ALSO, ASK YOURSELF HOW OFTEN DO COPS GET TRIED, CONVICTED, AND JAILED FOR NOTHING????
![]() by yellowrose of Texas on 07 November 2008 - 05:11 I dont care if she released her dog 360 times in a year, on a crook or criminal or a subject that was showing a combative attitude. If this countries law and order doesnt go back to punishment by apprehension, we are all gonna be fighting in the streets. There are always citizens who do not like Police dogs or policemen period. And in this case , apparently a fellow office , who was probably a male, decides to test the strength of a departmental judgement. Jealousy infests police departments just like all other jobs .Dogs are suppose to protect their officer, and much better than pulling a weapon and using brute force, that could result in a death. A dog can be called back and will detain the bad man or woman or kid, until proper restraints are able to be attained. It is the officers life that is out on a limb , dangling there to be wiped out in a minute, SEND THE DOG>>>>>>> LETS GET THIS WOMAN BACK TO HER FAMILY>>>UNBELIEVABLE IN AMERICA THIS HAPPENS>>>
