I have a puppy training video that explains Bitework Training, but the training is done with a partner. Is there a way to train my puppy without a partner? He is 4 months old. Thanks.

There is but you need to be experienced in being a helper.  If you only know what the video is telling you and never had worked a dog before I would suggest not doing so with your dog.

You could ruin your dog.

I suggest doing a google search for a club in your area and start working with a club.   This way you can have others help you in developing your puppy into good adult.

Good luck and hope you  can find some help with your training.

Oki you not experience you have much more chance to screw up your dog than teach him anything :) so just go and look for professional. :)

How long have you been in schutzhund and what do you know about doing puppy bitework?  If a total newbie and you know nothing about puppy bitework, other than that video,  then DON'T.

If, however, you are experienced in the sport, and know what it takes to develop a puppy in bitework, then do it.  LOTS of women have done the puppy bitework in their own pups, when they actually do know what they are doing.  You do NOT need to be a helper to do the puppy bitework.

I am a newbie. There are no clubs in my area. Anyone here from the Coachella Valley?

Is there any training I can do on my own that applies to Schutzhund competition?? He knows: sit, down, shake and speak, and he is crate trained.

Hello,

First  let your puppy be a puppy. Teach it to play and retrieve ball. Only use positive aspects on puppy. This is imprinting stage. If anything not alot of obedience as puppy. Mostly just rag work or drive build on flirt pole. For maybe a minute max then put away. Your pup knows alot for 4months. We usually do not obedience train young pups til bitework is imprinted. No to bite work yourself. Find a good helper to work pup with you. I only train young dog obedience with drive work a ball or tug. It makes the dog quicker and focused. so train positive retrieve, rag then tug, only for minute not until pup tires put him away wanting more. Good luck

what training vedio do you have? there is dvd by Bernard Flinks that Ed Frawley sells get that and then watch it as many time as it takes for yoy to understand the concept and the reason behind the concept.Once you understand it then and only then go and play with your puppy the way they are showing you.do not worry about making mistakes that is the only way to learn and every one make mistakes some of the best and accompolished trainers still making mistakes. there is no one on this planet who has not made mistakes when it comes to dog training.important thing to know is to learn from those mistakes and do not ignore them.just remember to be a great teacher and trainer you have to be extremely patient and creative, fair and learn to stay nutral and not get mad at youe dog and start jerking it around, use lots of motivation and if you can learn all this you be a good teacher and a triner one day.but start with that Bernard dvd.good luck and remember most important thing is to have fun with your dog.and if you are not having fun then you are doing it wrong. have a nice one.
