I belive we all made a point of not beein against chaining dogs. We are against stupid owners, and unless you promoting that law I don't think you will find much support. Can't fix stupid, and no one want to pass a law aginst stupid :)

IMO, it's no worse than any other method of confining a dog. I've had a few runner escape artists that'll dig, climb, and destroy anything they're put into, and tethering was the only way to allow them outside without the risk of them taking for the hills.
I feel worse for dogs that are crated 8, 12, 20+ hours a day and only let out to do their business then shuffled back inside. Sure those "box dogs" might be out of public view indoors but they never get fresh air, or even a chance to stretch out more than the confines of their crate allow. That seems a far worse [and unseen!] crime against the dogs. Many places have existing animal confinement laws that place a maximum amount of time a dog can be crated per day, but since the dogs are out of sight, very little gets done for them.

Cole,
I know you think this legislation is a good idea but watch what you wish for. These thing's never turn out the way you would think. And your attacking from the wrong direction. It's not the chain or the kennel, it's the animal owner.
I think there are too many idiotic law's on the book's now.
I vote no.
Moon's.

i agree with earlier response re crating v chaining. It seems "responsible" animal owners all seem to think that crating is an acceptable means of confinement. "Crating"...all day long while the "responsible" owner is away, is perfectly acceptable in the world of the "responsible animal owner/breeder. Chaining for long periods ,in adverse weather conditions, and other variables are "owner" problems and are to be compared to crating for long periods. Who in the world ever came up with the notion that crating your dog for hours on end was the acceptable and right thing to do? I believe "chaining" refers to the lower class dog owner (trailer trash etc) who don't have access to fancy dog runs etc...and must chain their animals when away. "Crating" is for the responsible breeder/owner who confines his animal for hours at a time.....and then states with pride how he never chains his animals.......come on now.....we all know chaining is not the answer.....we all wish we had the money/resources not to...and have a nice suburban home with kennel...but reality is the norm and even people in the ghetto love animals and do the best they can with what they have. Do you honestly think that "craters" are the good guys here...and the "chainers" are the bad guys? We all do the best we can with what we have........the bottom line is like others have stated: It's not the chain or crate.............but the OWNER

I think ColeHaus is speaking of the Chained dog's dogs that live their intire live's on chains and never get off .I remember a white GSD that lived on a chain many many years ago,in my neighbors yard where we just moved. His name they said was Tiger".I felt so bad for that dog because he was their acording to the owner 10 years. I would do my dishes and watch this dog run in circles endlessly, day in day out. One night my husband unhooked his chain to let him get one good run in ,I know this was wrong,it was not our dog,but being young and foolish, and loving dog's as we do,we seen no harm in it at the time. That dog never left just ran in circles over and over and over. As if the chain was still their. No amount of coaxing could get him to leave that spot. It was pathedic. and took the neighbors 2 days to realize he was unchained!!!!! Pathedic indeed. I will never forget that dog as if I seen him yesterday.
