Hello, everyone! I'm a newbie to the GSD world. My 11 week old Cochise has been with me for 4 days and I'm SOOO in love! lol I've learned a lot just reading the various topic posts but I was wondering if someone could tell me what DDR means?? I know... in a few months, I'll look back on this post and say, "Sheeshhhhh, how did I NOT know THAT?" Oh, the DDR is something to do with Cochise's pedigree/ancestry. I think. HELP! :)

Welcome!
I think you'll find this place intersting to say the least.
If a dog has DDR lines in it's pedigree then it means that the dog is from old East german lines. Let me try to explain a different way too.... Basically when the wall was up (in Germany) you couldnt exactly cross over from west to east or east to west just for the sake of breeding your dogs together to the breed split and thus emerged East German lines and West German lines. Hope that makes since. best of luck with your new pup.

WELCOME!!!! I think I can speak for us all in saying, ask any questions you like, we all did not know it at some point.
Enjoy!
I second Moon's question.... Is he on the database?

WOW, what a nice welcome! Thank you all :) I registered Cochise on the database just now.. musta done something wrong, though, because only his sire's name is listed. His dam is Dax Von Haus Antverpa. I'm so technologically "challeneged" that I figured I'd just type it here rather than blow up my puter and start again. lol Again, thanks, everyone for the happy welcome :)

DDR= East Germany. But, remember that the Wall came down around 1990, that is severa; generations in dog years!! While the various "camps" all their opinion of German, Show, working, Czech, East German, Belgian, Dutch lines, I think all agree that the DDRs and Czech are known for their beautiful pigment and lots of bone--big, squarish heads with beautiful ears that go up by 8 weeks and never come down. No "mule ear" phase, either. Beautiful dogs!!

That means your dog is a communist :) lol (DDR was a east part of Germany if you remember form your history classes Germany was divided by a Berlin Wall that divided the Germany into East and West. East being the communist part(DDR), you got a commy dog friend sorry don't tell USA government lol.
