Over a year and a half ago a friend of mine recieved a puppy in payment for whelping a litter for a Showline breeder. It was agreed that this puppy was to be a pet and the breeder finally verbally agreed to furnish AKC limited registration a couple months ago for this puppy.Apparently this dog comes from very impressive bloodlines and there were papers issued for his littermates as both have shown and recieved titles.Recently the breeder backed out of giving any AKC papers at all stating"They could be turned into full registration with UKC and used for breeding".Seeing there is a trust issue the dog owner agreed to wait longer and they came to an agreement that a simple pedigree would be sufficient at this time,as due to the fact that up till now they have had no information at all for their beloved pet and would appreciate just having a "family tree" in hand. Now the breeder is making excuses not to give them that information either. What reason could they have for this?

best way to find out is to ask them. what reason did they give for not doing it?

There could a misunderstanding as we are only hearing your friends view from you but then on the other side the breeder does not want the dog to bred so I suggest that you offer to spay/ nueter your dog in return for the papers. after all, its only a pet in the first place

Well, that is understandable now days as AKC has make it to were one can register a dog with a AKC pedigree!!!!! and yes UKC even will register with a 3 generation pedigree. It is sad to say but I see more and more of this coming in the years to come as Breeders really have no way of protecting their lines -Thanks AKC and UKC
I have a litter that is going for pet only and their is no paper work or information being told on the litter. It is not being posted or advisted. All must be spayed and nuetered and then you can register it with AKC if you wish to compete. So far it has all been word of mouth and the new owners complete understand why I am doing this.
So I understand first hand. If it is a pet then why worry. It would be like getting a dog from a rescue or pound. It is what it is.

my point that ukc is bootlegging our dogs and people are great liars as to there intent for the dog .i found all this out the hard way after selling pet puppys to pet homes .always was asked for copy of pedigree and i gladly gave many copies out only to find out they were ukcing the pups and breeding them and getting more for thier puppies then i sold them the origonal dog for . it was only after one lady kept at me over sending the copy of pedigree that i started asking questions and found out how badly i was screwed by these seemingly honest people.one girl even had the brass to call me months later to tell me stuff it ,ukc had registerd her dog with out my paper work.now i dont offer limited and my contracts will state if this dog is registerd with any other kennel club they will owe me hundreds of dollars more and if they breed the dog and i find out they will owe me hundreds of dollars more or they will be sued.ther must be some way to stop this bootlegging
