Hello everyone.  I am new to the site.  I just got a GS Puppy on Sunday of last week.  We had her shots given on Friday (2 days ago).   She is 10 weeks old.

Friday she seemed just fine, but all day yesterday she simply slept all day and willnot eat her food.  She will eat a treat or nylabone.  She is not acting like her normal playful self.  I read that pups can have a small reaction to thier vaccinatoins, but I dont know how severe or what the signs are for taking the pup back to the doctor.  I plan on taking her up there first thing in the morning.  Anyway, does anyone have any suggestions on how to make her feel better?  She is moaing at times trying to tell me she does not feel good.  The moning is not bad, she just seems frustrated.  Is there any king of pain reliver I could give her to help with possible fever etc...  I really just want her to eat.  Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Greta's Dad

just give plenty of fluids (milky tea works well)

its probably just a mild reaction to her jabs don't worry to much.

you can give some scrambled eggs to her for supper ,( lies heavy on the tummy will help her sleep)

don't bother giving any meds until you speak to your vet

I bet she will be fine in the am

Kind regards,

Tracie

If her stool is Ok and not runny or mucousy give her some cottage cheese or canned pet milk. She may be cramping in her belly from not eating. A little cooked rice with a bit of chicken broth can also help. Check for fever. Some pups get a fever and feel crappy for a day or two after vaccinating. If she has a fever over 103 dont wait till tommarrow take her to the emergency clinic. May have been exposed to virus before vaccinating.

Thank You all for your help!  I will whip up some eggs for her and check her temp.  Can I use a normal (old Fashioned) thermometer in the back side?  Is that the proper method?

Ask any large animal vet or vet tech. Spit serves very well as a thermometer lubricant.
