HSUS and PETA warning..............

What a crock.  Like all groups with an agend, they post the worst pictures they can possibly find, not what is the norm.  Nothing wrong with a "small pen" AKA kennel.  And I would much rather see a dog tied out, correctly, then run loose.  Oh yeah, nobody should own dogs and all animals should be free.  I'm surprised he didn't post the ban all breeders petition here also.

Ron Stewart,

There is no cruelty in a small kennel or a chain, the cruelty come's when a human leave's the animal there.   It could just as easily be a garage or spare room.    Ban this Ban that......... Ban stupid people why don't you.

I ban idiot's from coming onto my property....  I enforce that ban.

SSDD.

Healthyliving,

Most people who tether their dogs do so in a safe manner. Why punish those who do not abuse and go after the one's who do neglect?

Out right bans are typical AR propaganda.

If they get their way, we will have no pets, service animals and will all be vegetarians.

What a wonderful world that will be

Healthyliving/Ron Stewart,

Good grief, I tether my dogs out all the time to do their business, but only when I am home and can keep an eye on them.  I will also tether one or both out while I work the third in the same yard, and rotate everyone so they all work and all have to spend time in a long down.  I would rather you put your energy into something like banning puppy mills and dog fighting, things that have no sound, humane reason to exist.  If you really care about the welfare of dogs (and I am assuming you must to put up that information), please go after the truely terrible like those puppy mill owners and people who fight their dogs for sport.

NO WAY would I sign this petition.  Lumping the cruelty of starved, shelterless dogs like shown in the photo with the occasional tying outside of a dog is insane and plays right into the hands of animal rights people who want to ban all pet ownership.

There are already laws about starving dogs, and about leaving them without shelter.  Let's enforce them first.  And let's have some toleration for other ways of doing things.  I happen to have kennel runs but you know, many people in some parts of the country don't.  They do have their dogs on a cable or a chain, and the dogs are well-fed, well-watered, trained, groomed, and get attention.  Because "I" don't do it that way doesn't mean someone else can't do it right and have happy dogs.  Nail the ba*&#^$% who don't, and leave the good people alone.

Guess you'd rather have them bored to tears (or to destructive behavior) lying in the house all day, where they can't see anything, can't smell anything, but just have to lie in the house, which FOR A DOG is not enjoyable.

I vaguely remember feeling that chaining a dog was cruel... but it was when I was 14... so LONG AGO!  Ignoring a dog, giving it no personal time is cruel... whether it's a 5 acre field, or a 12 foot chain.   And I've actually owned dogs who were traumatized by being kenneled, but happy as a clam when put on a chain/tether for a while... It all depends on the dog, and the time the owner gives the dog other than when it's confined... by whatever means.

Definitely the wrong board for this HSUS/PETA message.

Mr. Stewart,

I hate to tell you this, but being on a chain is not the worst thing that can be done to a dog.  As was stated earlier, being in a house, alone all day, is no better.  Also, would you consider it less cruel for the dog to be allowed to run free?  Being hit by a car, picked up stray, fighting with other dogs, or even killing someone else's dog or livestock is better?  Should animal shelters euthanize all incoming dogs because it's cruel to cage them?  Come On!!!  Let's be logical here.  As TessJ10 stated above, there are already laws governing shelter and feeding, and those are enough.  You can have a dog in a pen or on a run or chain and still have a happy, well adjusted pet or working dog.  That's a fact.

Why don't you worry about dog fight rings, hoarders, and other cruel people before you stereotype everyone else?  And there's an interesting point.  A large amount of hoarder actually keep their dozens or even hundreds of pets in their homes with them, amid piles of junk, feces, and in some extreme cases, other dead animals.  Although those animals are in a house, are they any happier than a pet dog, well loved, but on a chain?  I think not.

If you want to subscribe to the theory that keeping pets is a form of slavery, as a Dr. Michael Fox once suggested, then maybe this isn't the best list to post to.  If all animals currently on the planet were left to themselves, the majority would be dead within months.  Whether PETA likes it or not, humans have shaped the animals in their world, and those animals cannot survive without us.  And we must protect them, whether that be with chain or with kennel run,  End of story.

No offense but I chain my puppy (12) weeks outside when I feed her, and when I just need to run in and out of my house, but she dose get to spend 80% of her time with me (unless I am working) Chain is there to keep her out of trouble with a neighbors :) I would ban stupid owners, not a tool that help us keep our dogs out of trouble. Thanks but no thanks.
