I have noticed in the time i have been on this forum which is less than a year, i am suprised at the number of problems some have with a Dogs Skin

Now i have kept Dogs of various breeds for about 57 years, and all lived outside in a Run and Kennel, but this was only where they lived , The normal excersise etc was done daily and part of the tiime they had the run of tthe Garden

Since having G.S the excersise is increase and Training in Schutzund three times a week

Now that bit is over, I can honestly say that never in all those years have we ever had a problem with a Dogs Coat or skin

Except when we bought Old Charlie with us to Belgium and he lived in the house for Two weeks whist we built his pen, but that was more so that he could acclimatise to the change

In that two weeks of living in the house he lost all condition in his coat.

Once back outside he regained condition in no more than the same time, he then lived on happy until he passed away 14 months ago, at the age of 14 years

Note, we moved here in the dead of winter to Snow and freezing weather

Once we noticed him losing condition in his coat we turned off the central heating and that meant wearing more clothes to keep warm

Can it be that Dogs living outside from Pups, and our new  Pup edition Christmas will go straight outside at 8 to 9 weeks old, keep free from these skin problems for i have never seen Dogs cared for and fed properly which live outside with Skin or coat problems in all my years with Dogs

Just an observation on my part,

Steve

Steve totally agree,i have found dogs reared in the house moult continually, due to central heating. Also dry flaky skin,my outside dogs never had a problem, moult thier coats naturally, and always more dense and healthy. liz
