My gsd is going to have a some pups and I was wondering how you pros on here determine which pups have the working drives and which pups are more for family homes. I am  curious because I am looking to keep one pup with working drives and possibly obtain some titles on him/her.

If you're new at this, you may want to bring in an experienced breeder to evaluate the litter. "Puppy tests" are a highly debateable topic, as the pups who may appear to be duds may turn out to be super, and vice versa. Breeding titled dogs with proven bloodlines can stack the deck in your favor. Might I enquire about the pedigree of your breeding pair, and what titles and training you have already done with them? Wow, not to be too much of an ass, but if you can't evaluate a pup and determine which have drive, etc., what are you doing breeding?  How did you evaluate the pair that was bred?    Hey, I understand that your dogs are probably the best dogs in the world, everybody's dogs are.  That is why it is mind-boggling why we have so many crap puppies.

I have my own way's of selecting a keeper.   Before any testing.

It involve's time and study... watch your pup's and see what trait's they display as they grow.

Know what your looking for.

Test's as such are limited in my opinion and useful only to a point.  Careful observation over time cover's a lot more ground.

I know I have a number one criterium: getting along with her mom. My girl is tame with other dogs and if the pup is as well two females would get along.

I can have this criteria for an American showline GSD. Harder to do with a german working line, I tend to think.

Thanks SchHbabe, Tigermouse and Snajper. As for Don Macaroni and want to be Held,  you guys dont have to be so negative. You two dimwits couldnt even answer the question. My dogs are german imports and I do know how to evaluate pups, but I am trying to find other ways and means from different minds.
