We have a 6-month old German Short-Hair Pointer. I had run out of Frontline and went to the vet to get more. My vet recommended a new product called Promeris and it was supposed to work on ticks better than Frontline. I had to work Friday evening so my husband put the Promeris on our dog while I was at work. I got home late Friday evening and didn't notice anything unusual. Saturday morning when I got up I noticed Gretchen seemed overly tired. She laid in her kennel and didn't want to play (very unusual for a GSP pup. ) I encouraged her to come out and play and when she started to get up she had a spell and fell down. She tried to get up, but kept falling down like she was having a seizure. I called my husband to come home from work because the puppy wasn't acting right. I sat on the floor with her until he got home, which was about 15 minutes. She made no attempt to get up until she heard my husband come through the door. He took her outside to watch her and she seemed better. Still lethargic, but not falling all over. I called my vet and he said she might have licked some of the Promeris. I find that hard to believe since my husband applied it between the shoulder blades, where we have always applied flea and tick meds. I got on the internet to find out more about this Promeris and I was shocked to read how many other dog owners have had problems with this stuff. I work with a woman who raises GSP dogs and her sister called her from Florida to tell her not to use this stuff on her dogs, because in Florida they were also having some problems with Promeris. Judge for yourself...I'm taking the Promeris back to my vet on Monday and hoping they will give me a credit towards the Frontline. We always used Frontline and we raised two Weimaraners on it and never had a problem with our dogs reacting to it.
