Would anyone be kind enough to share their experiences with this condition? What is the likelihood that it will correct itself after 1-2 heat cycles? Is it a genetic or a just a birth defect? My research thus far is conflicting.

I have seen several females with this condition and, assuming it is not really a deep involution, it will likely correct itself as the dog grows older. Watch for irritation or infection, but normally the dog keeps herself pretty clean. Don't panic and let someone talk you into surgery.

I think too that going through a heat cycle or two tends to fix the problem as well.

You must be talking about what I refer to as a DD....
Disappearing Dinky
Usually it will correct itself after the first heat cycle,
I had a lab with that problem and unfortunately it corrected itself to look
normal, but when I bred her AI, she needed a c-section cause she had a stricture.
She had a beautiful litter, and I kept a girl that didn't have a DD, but she had a litter
and one of the pups had one.
I do look for that before deciding to keep a girl, I think it is one of those less talked about
things that could very well be genetic.

Are strictures related to vulval involution?

by Ryanhaus on 20 October 2008 - 10:10
Hi KCzaja,
I have no idea if strictures could be related to vulval involution.
I just keep pups that don't have that when choosing a future breeding prospect,
that is an excellent question though......
