My girls love apples. To the point I had to fence them away from my apple trees so I could limit them to just a couple a day. For those of you that feed apples to your dogs, and have tons of extra, how do you store them? I had planned on freezing a bunch. I know they won't be as firm but I don't think the girls care. Do you just freeze whole? Do you vacuum seal? Slice and freeze in jars? I don't have a root cellar so can't store that way. I hate to have to buy apples if I can just freeze a bunch for later.

Apples don't freeze well at all. They'll turn into mush when thawed. You'd be better off making apple sauce and freezing it.
If you live in a relatively dry climate you can store apples in a dark room in such a way that they're exposed to air, i.e., on a table with a little space between each apple. Not in a box or a basket because if one rots, they all will if they touch. Or you can slice them and dehydrate them using either an electric dehydrator or on stacked window screens in a dark, dry room.
If you have an unheated basement you can store them there. They'll shrivel some but they'll be good until about February as long as they get some air circulation. Use only unbruised apples without worm holes. Any damaged apple will rot fairly quickly.

just make sure they aren't eating alot of seeds, they contain arsenic

The good news: apple seeds do not contain arsenic.
The bad news: apple seeds DO contain cyanide.
about the only way you can actually run into a problem with the toxicity of apple seeds is if you save
the seeds from about a bushel of apples and eat them all at once.

Animules,To be on the safe side..Just send a box of the apples to me.YUMMY!! My dogs like the pecans that drop off the few trees that I have. Any thoughts as to how this could adversely affect my dogs.

I have oranges, lemmons, peaches, plums, and grapes..... I am never concerned about my boy eating them, he plays with the oranges that fall like a ball! I cant wait for him to try that with a lemon.... I want to see the look on his face!!!! However I have heard bad things about grapes a long time ago..... But still have never had an issue.
I want some apples too!!!

I live in the fruit area of Belgium and Apples is big business My House is surrounded by Apple Orchards and rthe Blossom in the Spring is breathtaking
And My Pups do not eat them at all in fact i train in an apple Orchard during the winter
and part of the summer
They keep the Grass short beteeen the rows of trees which is ideal to teach a Dog turns to left and right and turning for obedinance
Plus we can do a Foreout in one good line between the rows of tees and this learns to keep the Dog in a straight Line for when he goes on the proper open training ground

I always de-seed my dogs apples as cyanide is an accumulative toxin , its cherry stones that contain arsenic....I think
the best way to store apples is to wrap them in newspaper and store them in a dry cool dark place they can keep for up to 6 months
