OK i know this isn't a popular subject but what the hell
do most blues have temperament issues?
I have met 4 blue gsds recently and all have had serious temperament issues,
is it inbreeding that has done this?
3 of the blues that i have met had excellent owners but still the dogs were really nasty
just curious

What was their breeding? Colour and temperament are not related.

no common ancestry. that is what got me thinking. one has quite good breeding from what i can remember.

It's years since I seen a blue! Perhaps the people that bought them thought they were buying a "rare" colour... that's how some advertise them and it can attract dippy, fashion faddy owners.

I honestly can't see colour influencing the temperament.
I've heard people saying whites have temperament issues too.

depends on where they bought the dogs. I know of quite a few breeders out there that are breeding strictly for color. hence, blue or liver, don't care about the structure or temperament of the dogs. but I also know of several breeders with these colors that do tons of health and temperament tests on their dogs before they breed them and are active in Obed., herding, tracking, and UKC show.

I can understand it with whites in the UK, as the breeding is often from quite a small gene pool.

Hi tigermouse,
The problem with their temperaments stems with the humans,
the humans were just looking for that certain color, and weren't
looking at the temperaments of the parents involved.
I breed number 1 for temperament, number 2 health history etc......
last but not least, color combo's they may have, but healthy live pups,
with happy outgoing temperament, come first on my list.
Then again.......................maybe the dogs are just feeling...........Blue???(sorry, couldn't help myself)
I once bred a Dutch rabbit with her son, only because Instead of the typical black & white,
I wanted brown & white, those bunnies were meaner than any police dog, they were
attack bunnies, very nasty little buggers! I had chunks taken out of my thumb just from setting
their food bowl down for them Nasty, nasty, bad bunnies..................

Hi again,
I couldn't resist, here's a picture of one of my many bunnies, she was a combination of an Angora/Dutch
bunny, she had blue eyes, and was very friendly.

LOL, attack bunnies... on another thread a few days ago somebody had a dog that protected them from mean old roosters!
