what to call this thread to actually get board members to read it and more importantly care. I originally posted this info on the thread about the Mass law but it is general info and one board member suggested a new thread. Twice as many people have read the thread questioning whether a 6 wk old pup is a lc or not ( you know what - it will be what it is - so wait and see). Folks IF you would like to preserve your ability to have and own quality GSDs at some point you have to give a crap , pay attention and get involved. It really doesn't have to take much time or energy - just do what ever little bit you are comfortable with.

May I suggest as a start to read "The Future of Dogs" at   http://www.pet-law.com/future/forward.html   The PetLaw site is dedicated to defending the freedom to own pets.

Part of what he has foreseen has already come true in Mass  and in time will be in your community/ state also if we sit back and do nothing.  This is my post from the other thread -

"Unfortunately not many people will read this thread because it is labeled a Massachusetts issue when in reality it is an issue for ALL of us because once again this is Peta's "No Birth Nation" agenda. They literally want to stop the births of ALL companion animals. THIS BILL IS A  MANDATORY SPAY NUETER BILL- just at 12 months not 4 months like in CA. For those in MA go to the www.saveourdogs.net site it has valuable information for you especially about the documented  disastrous side effects of early spay nueter. Example it is directly linked to the skyrocketing incident of patella dislocations.

Re the lepto - my vet refuses to give it because it is outdated. The vaccine is against a strain of lepto hardly ever seen anymore PLUS causes reactions.  The lepto strains that are seen are not affected by the current vaccine.

Finally some information about Massachusetts and it's shelter system. When I left 20 years ago we had already thru education reduced the shelter population to a point that several shelters ( staffed by PETA advocates by the way) were caught buying litter lots from puppy mills so they would have pups to place in their communities AND so their jobs could be preserved. Today the shelter system ( on people's tax dollars!!!!) is the biggest sole supplier of pets in the commonwealth. To do this they IMPORT dogs from FIVE other states AND Puerto Rico - from which last year they imported AND placed a dog with an active case of rabies. This system goes totally unregulated while PETA and HSUS push for greater and greater restrictions and regulations on legitimate breeders.

My suggestions to current MA residents is 1. GET involved in some way - write, speak, lobby, contact your newspapers and ask why they are not doing an expose on the importation of dogs into TAX FUNDED shelters.  If the shelters have no dogs or cats CLOSE them down or rent the facilities out to a non profit or spca who can choose to  import animals if they want - just not on your tax dollar. GET involved in you local animal control,. shelter , spca. Find out what and how they are doing it. Expose both good and bad practices. The good needs to be encouraged and supported. The bad needs to be stopped.

While I do not agree with all he has to say I do agree with a lot of it -an excellent book to get and read is Nathan Winograd's Redemption ( see also his website - look for the pdf articles which are the basis for the book).

IF you can get other board members to read this thread- because this is they future and people need to start seeing it clearly. "

Everyone needs to act. There are several bills waiting for legislation in Pa., some to limit how many pets you can own, some to place insurmountable obstacles to legitimate breeders, regulations that the puppymillers can readily accomodate, due to the high volume of sales they have, that small hobby breeders & 'quality, not quantity' breeders would never acheive. In 1 local municipality, the  dog warden gleefully described to me how "the new law means I can come to your house, count up your pets, shoot your dogs & leave just the three goldfish, 'cause 3 is all the pets you can have." And I thought this was America. Well, it is, & if we don't stand up for our rights, the idiots are waiting to take them away! Call, e-mail, better yet write a letter, copy it, & send it out to as many of your congressmen, senators, local oficials, newspapers, as you can find addresses for. AND VOTE! Find out who the promoters of these laws are, & show them who's boss by voting them out of office! Defend your dogs! Phew! jackie harris

As I have stated on this forum many times, this type of freedom robbing legislation is just a small part of a large global agenda being pushed by certain private foundations, think tanks and "councils of elites".  Their agenda also has included ramming "diversity and political correctness" down our throats, indecently high oil prices to break our backs financially, and eliminating and/or exporting our jobs to foreign nations.  These elites have taken over our gov't.  They are wealthy special interests that buy the legislation they want. And what they want is a one world fascist gov't with a drastically reduced world population of serfs working on their global plantation. They have taken over washington DC and infected our gov't like a virus.  It is time we take our gov't back from these elite scum.  I say "vote em all out, every single one"!

I agree, it should be very obvious to everyone, people are not being alarmsits when it comes to this issue.  I think it's also very clear that even though it's being fought state by state, this is a national issue.  What can those of us who are NOT  Mass residents do to help?

It is a national issue.  PETA and HSUS are well funded with a lot of celebs backing them.  I have reached the point if a celeb is taking a stance on an issue totally against my beliefs, I do not support them either, don't see their movies, don't buy their music, don't buy products they endorse.  Otherwise it's MY money being given to support these causes, MY  money going to PETA and HSUS.  MY money being spent on mandetory spay/neauter campaignes and only be allowed to have three goldfish and they better be in a 20 gallon aquarium with toys.....

Keep the pressure on your local and state lawmakers for sure.  But add some pressure on these celebs that are taking YOUR money and using it against what you believe in.

Is the American Dog Owners Assocation involved?  What about the National Alliance of Animals or something(they are a good organization)

Have you researched and sent the research to your representatives?  Have you considered "hand walking" the research to the floor personally and asking for an opportunity to speak?  Take your well trained dog with you when you go.

Have you contacted the media and made an effort to educate them?  What about dog training clubs in your area?  Are they active and involved?  In Palm Beach Co. Florida the veterinarians all got involved against mandatory speuter, not that it did any good....sigh...but have you talked to your vet?

I have enough issues battling with some idiots in Broward County Florida, without attempting to help you out....I wish I had a magic wand to wave over the US to make people see what PETA and HSUS are really up too...that they are terrorist organizations bent on no one ever owning another animal again....

Good luck in the battle!

At some point, we as dog owners & sportsmen must really consider organizing in like fashion to combat the Antis..small donations for  lobbyists or those willing to lobby.  Education, numbers & Lobbying.

United we stand, divided we fall.
