What do you think the percentage of people on this board train dogs? im not trying to ruffle any feathers. I have just noticed that the majority of posters are more interested in grooming, pictures, anal glands and what toy the dog like to bury. I don't want any person to take this the wrong way but i notice more and more quality sources on here are no longer posting. it has gotten stale without the good advice of so many past posters. i rarely see anything of gard, olskool, spook, jeff o, don c, bob o, bob k, alpha and many more. have they all moved on to another site? or are they just bored of this venue? im not saying that there isnt valuable info but it seems to be limited to breeding and grooming type of topics.

Good question. We are actively training our dogs toward Schutzhund. We both took dogs to an Ivan Balabanov seminar in the last few weeks. We make it club training almost every week. We work our dogs at home in between. It can be difficult when I leave for work at 4:45 AM and get home just barely before dark. Some home training sessions are very short but something almost daily.

Peter...You will find that most of the people on this site regularly are Show people not folks that are hard core trainers...in the sense that you train dogs for the sport or for other suitable work...Most of the trainers...just go about their thing and train dogs...and don't do too much talking about their training with everyone...
I only do working line GSD's and they all work for a living...they are either police dogs in training or Schutzhund type training...

I obedience train, but don't feel I know enough to offer any thing that hasn't already been said. Plus I don't care to get itno the mudd slinging that is so common here with some posters. I am not into Schutzhund, but would like to learn more on tracking and detection work. But again don't want the mudd slinging because I don't Sch train my dogs. JMO

fm2410, good for you for doing something with your dog. That counts for a lot. There are a variety of tracking titles you can go for, both Schutzhund related, as well as AKC related. Lots of obedience things you can do too.

I train and compete my gsd's in akc ob and rally and started working my 21 mos gsd in Schutzhund a few months ago. We go to a trainer 2x per week and I try to track her at least 3 x per week on top of the work with the trainer. I go to an ob class with her on Wed nights, and go to a Rally class on Thursday night with my older dog. I never would have tried Schutzhund if I had not heard so many people talk about it on this board and wanted to see if Molly has what it takes to be a sport dog. She has picked it up much more quickly then I have. I told my trainer last week that Molly is "trainer handicapped." Poor dog.

As a person who has show line I do train like the working dog person, and my dogs are HOT. I spend anywhere from 1 to 2 hours a day training depending on the day and what I am working on with each dog. I do have a full time job, plus a litter of Freakin' Flyin' Monkeys (AKA GSDS) that thankfully are going to their new homes this weekend. I attend club training usually twice a week, unless work gets in the way. I also have a certified SAR K9, and manage the local humane society. Sometimes there isn't even time to read the good stuff that might be posted. I will admit I waste some time during lunch each day at my desk laughing at some of the idiotic threads many spend endless hours reading and posting on.
I find the majority of the posts on here of late to just be garbage, and not even worth the time to read, let alone comment on.There is rarely anything of interest to me anymore on here, other than pedigrees, and the occasional post by someone I might admire. I notice if someone starts a topic about training, it falls apart quickly or it is overrun with the lunacy of the wannabes.
Maybe if some of us offered a list of topics we would like to discuss and manage to not allow the lunatics to take it over, we might once again bring some information to this site. I for one would be interested in discussions on moving from a sch2 track onto a 3 when you add cross tracks. I want information I can use and I am happy to add my 2 cents when it is a topic I actually have information or experience with.
