Who in their right mind would use a beagle to run deer ?  LMAO

That's not saying too much for the health of deers in your neck of the woods. Besides, if a beagle would run this mountain around here .. all the yotes and woofs would maul it. The deers would stand and watch.

Who's beagle runs deer again ? LMAO

They're not pure beagles. They are usually 25-40 pound hound mixes. They are larger than beagles and smaller than hounds. They're not supposed to catch the deer, as I understand it, just chase it toward the hunters. Maybe the hunting ranges are smaller around here than where you are. We are starting to get coyotes, but there are no wolves. Biggest hazard to the dogs that I know of is them getting on the roads and dying. I just know that I see probably 2-3 of these a day dead by the roadside at some times of the year. Where I grew up in Western Virginia, using dogs to run deer isn't legal, but in central and eastern Virginia, it's permitted, and then you'll see packs of deer dogs.

Foxhunters give a significantly higher amount of care to their hounds than these deer dogs get.
