Well - lots of good, positive comments, and I agree that its going to be a difficult one, and I too wondered if the criteria and the timing for the event  would be possible  -  but its putting out the feelers, and having enthusiastic people bothering to give the comments above that will make it a good event that we can perhaps go forward with, as MissBeeb says - and I am sure that your offer of help would be most appreciated - thanks.  On Sunday i will be putting to the group, over a coffee, all of your very valuable input - thanks, and keep it coming.    Re BAGSD and the LEAGUE and the AD BH - there should be no reason why this could not be.  Unison is what will make this a success.  Also, I feel strongly that I have to take peoples points of view back to the group, as that is the only way we will know if we please the people or not.... its no good working an event out if its not what exhibitors/working groups are in for.  Mo - Mascani.

Love to do it and my dog has:

SchH3

AD

UK Breed Survey Grade 1

G Grading at the British Sieger 2007

Eye Tested clear

Haemophilia tested clear,

KC/BVA hip and elbow scores, (5:3 and 0:0 respectively)

but no DNA scoring.

I will not be having my dog x rayed AGAIN so for me there is no benefit in having a KOERUNG in the UK over having one in Germany.

Shame that my dog is still ineligible to enter a Koerung after all that!

PS my dog was one of TWO GSD that got their AD last year in the UK

Congratulations Langhaar.  The x-ray thing is a real draw back imo.  Something else for our BC to look at.

Langhaar

Sorry i miscounted, but i am sure that the hip and elbow thing will be a prob if you are under the UK system, and somenone needs to check if qualifications given by a uk WUSV approved judge are eligible, i am not sure either way and looking at the past results yours are under UK judges

General post

If someone on here has real intent in doing this i would suggest they contact the appropriate persons for advice

they would be

S Nye BAGSD VPG Events Organiser

R James GSDL WDG National Event Coordinator

They at least have the contacts to find out exactly what is required and have the experience to organise such an event

Regarding interest there are 5 posters on hear to date hardly earth shattering, in my experience when the breed people realise how much work and effort and when tthe working people evaluate the cost the result will be if we dont have to we wont do it, call me sceptical but the point has been proven many times over the years

All the sch handlers in this country have to do is have the hips xrayed and all the breed people have to do is teach the dog to run in a circle, without the KC statring to take active control which they wont and the reticence for the breed clubs to make a stand which they wont this thread willdie like all the others another good idea gone to waste

Reason, I am not going to mention your "hard sales line"... great marketing etc! LOL

I think the main reason this stands a better chance, is that so many of the Brits are now showing overseas & more want to.  I know some (%?) send their dogs off (abroad) for all the required qualifications but there's got to be a few that would like to do it for themselves.

Congratulations to South Cheshire on leading the way forward for the breed in this country!  I understand every point being made re hips/elbow scoring in this country and I'm sure this is an issue which will be dealt with in due course.  The WUSV is keen to promote the introduction of Koerung in all countries and handled properly the resolution of this problem may not be so far away.  (Very few countries have a reciprocal system with the SV - as Carol pointed out even the US system is not acceptable.)    When (I refuse to say IF) this gets off the ground there will be a huge learning curve for everyone. Numbers don't matter at this point - a lot will not have dogs ready within the time frame for this year.  BUT - if we don't start somewhere then we will never deal with these issues and at the risk of sounding trite, Rome wasn't built in a day.  At least we as a breed will be setting standards for our breeding stock far and above the miserable standards set by our archaic Kennel Club.  Go for it guys!  And well done Mo for inviting comments and feed back BEFORE the event - at least we are all having the opportunity to give CONSTRUCTIVE comments.

You already "do" Sch, don't you Alyson?

by Alyson R on 13 January 2009 - 21:01

Yes, Carol and I do Sch - well at least our dogs do!  Not all of them, and we can't possibly train all of them so we do resort to help overseas.  We also do Koerung with our breeding stock and have 3 Lebenzeit dogs, Orlando Vallendarer Hoehe (who we trained and worked for his LBZ) Vlori Rehinmosel Ring, and Antilli Xambi.  We would LOVE to be able to Koer our dogs here.  We do most of the basic training here - mainly with South Valley Sports Dog Club, who are tremendously supportive, and then send the dogs over to Germany for finishing and qualifying, although we did train Antilli Sindy (Aldo & Axel's mother) and qualify her SchH1 in Germany ourselves (that was quite an undertaking!) And we have been to many, many Koerungs in Germany.  We will do all we can to support this event, although sadly we may not have a dog ready to participate.

Good for you.  Let's hope this really gets off the ground... it's quite exciting really!
