as chris smith said,  ivan uses e collars.  seen it in person, 2007 awdf.   its not on video, because that doesnt sell.  same as table training and force retrieve, force tracking etc.   only die hards would pay money to REALLY  see how the top compititors make it there.    videos and books pay them so they can spend more time at home training their dogs and making it to the podium again.

as i tell my club members and those new to the sport, you have to find a training method and club that you are comfortable with.

Laura, What state are you in, perhaps people can recommend some clubs in your area to visit, watch and learn.

sueincc let not eat her alive :) I see that kind of respons from all newbies :) Thats usually is fallowed by trainers  tells them "your dog is spoiled" lol and "it looks like you have no control of your dog" and they shocked because they have no serious issues with the dog but you can tell right away that is the dog that runs the house not other way around :)

Don't bite off the head of the newbie!!! The less we bash people who want to start, the better. Think about how many preconception you had when you first started looking, at least she is asking some sensible questions

Yes correction may be necessary. But believe it or not there are dogs who make the nationals who have never seen a pinch in their lives. As Snajper69 says force is the last resort. Good training begins with good pack leadership. If your dog repects and trusts you at home, no reson why he will not do so on the field. Yes some trainers can be impatient, avoid them. You have to find a club that you feel progresses your dog at your own pace, but sometimes a good trainer can spot a dog that needs a firmer hand, do evaluate their advice.

Btw in the UK e-collars are banned in SCH.

I have trained my 3 dogs that I have and my boyfriend has trained his current dog with Ivan's method. Our dogs have a very clear understanding of what is expected of them. They have very happy obedience. None of them have been worked with a pinch collar either.  I am not  saying that they have never been corrected when they are working. Ivan's videos "Obedience without Conflict" are great videos and make total sense. With his method you learn to work with the dogs natural drives and really learn to read your dog.

Here are 2 pictures of our dogs during a training session that Phil and I did together a couple days ago..

This is Aiko he is my male that I am currently titling...he has his BH and I am working towards his SchH1, 2, and 3...

Here is Phil working with his male,TJ, Phil is working towards TJ's BH and will also be titling him to his SchH3.
