Pedigree is garbage! GSDBreeder it is certainly NOT the best dog food. It is shit!

I have to agree with Pam Powers, that our dogs have so many GI problems, that we have to be so careful in our choice of food. My father's dogs scavenged round the farm, and never really had set meal times, or any particlular food in their diet. They just ate anything!!!!! They were always fit and healthy and lived longer.
I now have a dog with immune related GI poroblems, and he can only eat one particluar prescription diet. Believe me I have tried many other much better foods on him, but none were sutable, and it wasn't the foods, it IS HIM. I am so jealous(lol) when I read all the food threads, cause I would love to be able to try different foods. Some people seem to chop and change with no problems!!!!!!
The food he is on, has ingredients that I wouldn't willingly feed to him, but it helps to keep his illness at bay, so I have no choice. IMO if our dogs GI health was as good as it should be then we could feed them just about anything!!!! My father did, and he would be bewildered at all the foods available now lol

Lorri, thank you for the advice.
And about the 11 star dog foods, it was a typo on the first post by tigermouse but she has edited it. So nevermind.
Badpuppy and artisianM, your foul language is extremely off putting, I'm sure there are many children who frequent this board so please control how you speak (on this board at least).
If you visit this dite: dogfoodanalysis.com
you will notice that Pedigree is rated a 1st grade dog food. What does that tell you?

The grading system on that site goes from 1 to 6. 6 being the best, 1 being the worst. If you read their review of the food, it states

This food receives a 1 star rating simply because there is nothing lower. |
If thats what people like to feed, all the power too them.
I have a good friend who has been using it for yrs and claims its a good food. Her dogs have poor muscle tone, excesive shedding, hot spots, ear infections, tons of large, loose stools that have the most horrible odor. Always applying some sort of meds to the dogs.
Pedigree had a recent recall on a few of their dry formulars.
Yrs ago my husband bought a bag at the supermarket. It was on sale and he thought he was doing me a favor. I fed it to the pigs. He wont do that again.....lol.....

The food i mention is not avaiable in shops, only through the pedigree breeder scheme. The shop bought food is, IMO, for the pet owner who sees " FRESH CHICKEN AND VEGETABLES IN RICH GRAVY" as something they would eat themselves. I am afraid to say this food is not like that at all, the descriptions can sound delicous, but are far from it. I would not feed any of pedigree foods now, but each to thier own, it is totally up to the individual. liz

Liz -thanks for that:)
Pam -very good post , but feeding poor quality foods doesn't help.
GSDBreeder- I apologize if I took your post wrong, but it was a little bit sarcastic. I am dyslexic and find typing hard , I am also lazy and use + instead of writing and.
I have spent along time (years)learning about dog food Ingredients and I can assure you that pedigree is not good . would you feed your kids additives and toxic chemicals? pedigree is a HUGE company with a lot of money so it doesn't surprise me when I hear that they make the top in lists.$$$ IMHO
I chose to feed my dogs the most nutritious and balanced diet I can, if I could feed raw I would but time isn't on my side lol.
If you chose to feed this food that's your choice but please don't recommend unless you can understand whats in it.
Google each ingredient, ,and esp with the chemicals read the biohazard papers, if that doesn't change your mind nothing will.
Kind regards,
Tracie

TRACIE, if you were lazy you would have put 11, and not 5+6, also i think everbody new exactly what you meant when you put + instead of and. YOU, DYSLEXIC??????? LMAO RIGHT!!!!!!!!!
