Speaking from experience, Mystere, the equestrian sports in Canada are overwhelmingly female. Back when I was riding, you could count the number of guys at our stable on the fingers of one hand. And three of them were gay....
No, seriously, that's the truth!
It certainly wasn't a good place to go looking for a husband!

No, i am happy with the Shepherds and it is the last breed i will own until i pop off this mortal coil,
As for the Ladies in the sport of SchH over here in Belgium there are a fair few, one or two of note like Christine etc, but it is mostly the Guys who train
There are a fair number of Women breeders but the sport is mainly men

Steve,
Have you wondered why that is? I recall a German judge who said that when he was thinking of emigrating to the US, one of the reasons he did not move to the US was the overwhelming numbers of women in the schutzhund clubs. Seems he felt we had much in common with the females of the canine persuasion: a tendency to fight to the death. Not literally, but you guys do seem to get very angry (even violent) with one another and a couple days later, laugh over beers, as if nothing had happened. Women tend not to do that. When we fall out with someone we feel has wronged us, we tend to stay non-friends with them.

Yes, i notice that, I can have a fall out with a Guy or Girl and then its over and i never bear a grudge, and the same on here i have a laugh to myself and its gone away, Some think i get upperty but believe me i do not, sometimes i may word it in that way,
Only if i am plainly insulted do i get a little mean, but the little episode with Videx i would buy him a pint if we ever met, life is too short to hold a grudge more so over words, and mostly it is just my warped sense of humour really, and it warped so i have been told many times over the years, but it sometimes irritates people
But how does one change a habit of a life time, Years ago i used to drive the pigeon fanciers nearly insane
When i thought i was in with a chance of winning i used to go down to the race marking in a tee shirt, and big letters Printed 'KING OF SEATON' say was the race point or whatecver race it was i had Tee Shirts for a lot of races with the winners slogan printed on it 'LIke I am the Best forget the Rest'. but it was only in fun and i used to smooth it over after i had won the race by buying them a Pint, and a few subtle words, but never the less i respected them all, and they knew it really
The one thing in life i believe in is if you cannot do someone a favour without asking anything in return, then do not do them a bad one instead

In USA, the 3rd most popular dog breed is GSD (whatever variety). That means,GSD as a pure family pet is king here.
By sheer numbers, the second is showline dog, more people do the ring dance than Schutzhund, which is third, but gaining in popularity. It'sa big country, clubs are far and in between and it takes a lot of time and dedication, money, perseverance, blood, sweat and tears to get a Schutzhund 1 title on a dog, so most peoplethat do not have some of the above are just happy with a pet. And that is great too, what better pet than a GSD!
It is indeed a lot of ladies of all ages, shapes and abilities doing Schutzhund in USA, which is a great thing and I am pleased with it.

Adi,
Yes you would be right it must be quite a job getting to the Clubs and to title a Dog, Over here in Belgium we are spoilt for choice, and i will be honest with you although i know how big the USA is it never crossed my mind as to the hardship some must face to train so full credit to those Guys and Girls

Steve,
Just by way of example, the nearest clubs to me are 35 and 45 miles away. The club at which I train is 69 miles away from my home. One of my club members travels south 160+ miles (one way) and another between 150-200 miles west (one way) to train, over at least one mountain pass. A third travels west across two states and at least two passes, driving for about 7-9 hours each way.
At one time, I trained at a club that was 3 1/2 hours (200 miles or so) away, staying over the weekend to train. I did this for a few years.
A LOT of people who participate in schutzhund in this country, and Canada, travel remarkable distances to train and trial.
Yep, you are spoiled in Belgium...and Germany...and Holland....

Mystere... I guess you mean Beetree? All these "Bees" cause a little confusion, huh?
Yes, Missbeeb, schutzhund clubs in the US tend to be predominantly female. Don't know why--just is. But, then, so are most of the competitors in AKC Obedience, flyball, agility, etc. I would not be at all surprised if it is the same among equestrians.
The S/L are numerically stronger, Steve... I expect in most, if not all countries.
I so wish we could all find some common ground and get on with each other... remember divide and rule? Are we so very different?
