Sorry your having medical problems Uberland - I had back surgery myself in October.  My oldest dog knocked me off my feet chasing a ball that i was swinging around with a stick and my disk herniated and a piece of it broke off and lodged up under a nerve.  I couldn't do anything for months.  Sounds Like you are having more trouble than my back though...hope you see light soon...

thanks happyday.  my issue's are more like MS.  I spent most of last week walking around in a backbrace.  if I had the brace off for more than a few minutes, I was in agony.  So far, drs. can't do a thing for me.  I am structurally fine, but something is wrong with my nerves or how my brain is receiving pain signals from my body.  we just don't know.

Thanks for the kind words Mystere.  She is loads of fun.  Uber Land, sorry to hear about your problems, makes mine seem so petty.  And happyday good to hear you are on the mend.  I hope we all see the light soon so we can enjoy our GSD like they were meant to be enjoyed.

I experienced for the first time religious bigotry in this type of disscusion.

my dogs give me a purpose and a reason to get out of bed everyday.  they keep me active and sane for the most part :)

I know what  you  mean, Uber!!  I don't think I would spend more than five minutes a day outside, were it not for the dogs!!

I hope that you are able to overcome your medical issues and be pain-free.  I have a couple of friends with MS.

Uberland...i feel for you with the back injury. I became interested in Shepherds at an early age. I am originally from NY and my grandfather was in the Army then a NY State Trooper. He worked with Shepherds pretty much his whole life and he always had 1 at teh house. When I finally bought my first home in 2006 that is what I did. I bought a working line Shepherd Xannon Vom Barockschossle in early 2006 and started to train him under Owen Tober and the Buffalo area Scutzhund Club. I then moved to my new home in the Charlotte area almost 3 years ago to the day now. In November 16th 2007 I was driving down my road when a log truck came into my lane, I swerved to avoid it and drove my 2004 Chevy Suburban drove off the road. When I tried to get it back to the road the truck apparently flipped 5 times ejecting me in the process. I don't remember the actual accident that is why I am saying apparently. I had broken my neck at C1 and C2, ruptured my intestines, broke my skull in 2 places, fractured several bones in my face and upper and lower jaw. fractured my left shoulder and tore the skin off my left knee down to the Patella joint. I had stopped breathing and bruised the majority of my internal organs. I was airlifted to the trauma center in Charlotte where I was for 5 weeks. I awoke out of a Coma to my wife telling me I was ina  very bad car accident and the truck was totalled. My 2 daughters were with me, 14 and 7 years old. besides being scared out of their skulls, they just had some bruises and my 14 year old had a sprained ankle. Well, I now have a replacement joint in my left shoulder and  I had my discs L4 and L5 removed and support rods placed in. I have 8 plates in my upper and lower jaws that feel like springs when I talk. But other than that I am alive. Oh I also suffered a pretty substantial brain injury and I can't remember a lot of my life. I rehabbed all of last year. I had to give my Shepherd to a friend as I couldn't take care of him as I could barely walk. So I was pretty upset about my dog and my wife knew how important he was to me. She decided to get me another one and contacted a great woman in Kentucky. I now have 2 puppies Chief Vom Haberland and Yessi Von Der Fangschleuse. I am getting another soon. I am very much into the sport of Schutzhund and I am dipping my feet into show this year as in May will be our first time in a show at the one in Georgia. But, that is my story and I enjoy hearing people's opinions on different subjects pertaining to dogs. I get tired of hearing show ansd working. I just love Shepherds in general all Shepherds. So it is to each persons pleasure what they get out of thier dogs

happyday, if you hang around for a while and do a little research, you can spot the fakers pretty quick

They offer lots and lots of advice, but have never titled, shown or trained a dog for any type of serious work or sport.  If you want to know who you are getting advice from, just ask them to name some of their dogs and their accomplishments. The fakers will fall silent.

Of the ones you mentioned, the only one I have personally run across was Shelly Strohl at the NASS in Lexington.
Pretty safe bet that she is the real deal.

P.S. I'm just starting my German S/L adventure. My pup has shown twice with a VP1 both times. The second time at a regional show with over 200 entries and 10 in his class. A SV judge spent quite a bit of time with him and rated him as "medium hard" and felt sure that he will do well in sch. training.

Best,
Rik

RIK
that kind of hurts my feelings :(

I have owned several titled dogs, no I didn't title them myself, but if I didn't know what I was doing, I would not have been able to care for a dog such as my  Toby van Steimen Ecke SCH3 IPO3 IWR3, the dog was a bastard to most people, pure power.  he didn't take kindly to corrections, would not "out" and had absolutly no problem coming back up the leash at you.  He was already a known biter(one of his previous handlers was sent to the ER with many stitches), The time I had him before his death, I was never bitten or even scratched by this dog.  I earned his respect and he definitly had mine.  I don't think too many people could have taken a dog like him, already set in his ways and had not had 1 incident with him.

I really do commend Shelley Strohl for what she can do/has done with her dogs.  and many other people on this board for that matter.  when I am able to, I hope to be right out there with the rest of ya'll on the field.  My heart is willing, but my body can't keep up.

I used to really let what people say bother me.  I've placed MANY good dogs cause I would beat myself up and tell myself the dogs deserved better than me, they deserved someone who could take them to trials and shows.  I've had the puppymill comments tossed my way in the past on here, and many other things have been said.  but I try to not let those things get to me anymore. I have to remind myself that my dogs could care less about trials or shows.  those are things that people make sound important.  they are not important to my dogs.  what makes my guys happy are our little walks, me getting outside and sitting in the grass and brushing on them, they LOVE feeding time and their raw chicken quarters, and I don't know what they would do if they didn't have the kiddy pool and mud puddles to play in everyday.
