I apologize in advance for this stupid question. Is the 'level of heeling' in the video for competition only? If she was out for a walk through town would it look like that?

No that type of heeling is not for walking around town. It's for competition.

So in theory, does that dog have two modes of heeling, one for show, and a more relaxed one for general motation?

by Christopher Smith on 09 March 2009 - 23:03

Yes that's the way it is in most cases.

Thanks for the kind words. Reik also lives in the house, gets along with minimum tension with another male five months his senior, and is well socialized with other dogs, all things I was told will ruin a competition dog when I first starting doing the sport ten years ago..
Chris, time will tell. I see no reason why he can't continue to do well but we have not proven ourselves yet at the three level. He has the genetics and the work ethic so hopefully I will not mess him up by not putting an e-collar around his cute little neck. Given that at this point he is 27 months old, it will be at least till next years big competitions. Luckily for me, I have the club and the helpers that will hopefully take me to that point. See you then!
That is Reik's competition heel. His walking around town "close" is very casual.

See you then!

I hope so and wish you all the best. And feel free to rub it in my face.
