Two Moons

by Two Moons on 04 February 2009 - 20:02

haines,

There's no set rule, I've heard its better to take the female to the male but I've done it both ways with little difference.

The stud owner may have their own ideas, same way with paying and contracts.

So many variables.
I wouldn't pay in full up front.
Its nice to see where the animals are kept and the conditions there.
Check the stud out thuroughly, health, progeny, etc.

Its a business transaction same as any other, only more complicated.

Make a wise choice and everything should work out ok.

Moons.

It can be done both ways but the safer way is to bring the female to male as the female has a tendancy to be dominant and aggressive towards the male in her own place. Ofcourse, the owner of the stud would not like his dog to get injured by a dorminant female.

males too would feel comfortable on there own turf. Some males may get too exited or tired to do the job if travelling for abou 6 hrs. A tired female would be helpful a tired male would not not for atleast a day unless the dog is very horny or fustrated.
from the female's owners side, i guess i would need atleast 2 services on alternate days and unless they have capacity to keep a stud dog who will break an ordinary cage to get to a female in heat. I doubt that many owners of females would have the capacity tp keep a male and vice versa.

Thanks to everyone that gave me real advice. I am located in Illinois and my female won't be in heat for a while and I haven't OFA'd her yet and she just is about 1yr but I'd like to figure things out and do long research on find a complimentary male.
is there somehwere to look up other previous used contracts?
I did have a male and the first heat with her and him on same property was a ZOO!! I don't know how other breeder keep female & male near each other

Thanks

I have a lock-down kennel in the basement for females in full estrus. My stud do knows all about her down there of course, and keeps me up at night fussing till I finally get pissed off and throw one of them in a crate out of earshot for the rest of the night (preferrably in the van well away from my bedroom window) so I can get some sleep.

You have at least a year and a lot to get accomplished before you have to worry about breeding your female.

I brought both females in when weather got so cold,  now ones coming in bright red and bloody, the others gonna come in soon and my yearling male thinks the circus has come to town.
Its russian roulet with a twist!!
Today they all stayed in the kennels, now my males in and the females are out.
Its a revolving door and never a dull moment or any peace.
Roaming males take their chances with the business end of my shot gun.
