Actually, I always put the lid down and we leave the bathroom doors closed when unattended.
There's a toilet lid that you can get at a Home Depot that closes slowly and quietly with a very slight touch, ( I own one and I love it). It also doesn't wake us guys up when the little lady slams it closed for what seems like 10 or 20 times in the middle of the night. Us guys don't like the loud noise because it sounds too much like a gunshot and brings out our fighting and protection instincts, and we don't want to have to bend down to close it. ;>) Keep in mind, when we guys find that we must use public toilets, we never touch the lid with our hands, we simply kick them up...... this is especially true when we are forced to use a unisex restroom.
Knowing those things might help you train the human males in your house. Or, you could try to leave important items out, those that belong to your husband and son, and encourage your dog to take their stuff to the toilet, other than that.... you might be down to turning on the 'bitch mode' ...... and withhold sex and meals. It' makes the house hell to live in, but it WILL work, especially if you dress and act sexy during the time you're withholding. Bottom-line, we can be trained. LOL
Oh, as long as we're talking toilets. let's talk about aim or should I say miss. As you probably already know, us guys are satisfied if we just get close, hitting the target is generally not important to us, unless it's at a trough urinal in public, because that becomes competition and missing in public can suggest we could be lacking in, oh, let's say reach. And, if you pee on the wrong guys foot, you could be in a fight for you life. We believe that cleaning bathrooms is women's work, we know that we 'might' have peed on the floor and we don't want to touch it. Besides, when we were small boys and peed on the kitchen floor, mom always cleaned it up, so our training started early in our life.

DAVRON: I DONT LET MY DOGS DRINK TAP WATER...THAT IS WHY I MOVED TO THE COUNTRY..OR AT LEAST ONE REASON....
CLORINATION IS SO SICKENING...READ kEVIN TREDEAU'S BOOKS THE NATURAL CURES THEY DON'T WANT YOU TO KNOW ABOUT...THREE EDITIONS OF THEM..
CITIES ARE BOUND BY FEDERAL LAW AND YOU WOULNT BELIEVE WHAT THEY DO TO THE CITY WATER SUPPLY.
BUT SHOULD NOTE: WELL WATER MUST BE CHECKED ALSO FOR EXCESSIVE IRON ORE OR COPPER CONTENT..MINE HAS HIGH LEVELS OF BOTH SO I FILTER THE HECK OUT OF IT AND USE A BRITA FILTER INSIDE AND A FAUCET UNDER COUNTER.FILTER.... BUT I DONT USE IT FOR COFFEE OR TEA...
I LUG (6 ) 6 GALLON OF WATER FROM TOWN EVRY 5 DAYS...

Davren,
I love making folks laugh and smile, I am glad you liked it.
BTW.... I also live in the sticks. The only other place I would ever agree to live... is full time on a big boat... and I am working on that dream each and every day.

I almost hate to ask, but what's wrong with sitting down, at home? As a wife, and having had a teen living here, as well, I can tell you that it's not only the seat up and the misses, but the splashback on walls and everything around the toilet that I objected to, and my hubby, though a manly man in every way (and gross, into the mix, sometimes) always sits when he's at home, so I don't have to clean up his messes. He told me that he hates to clean up his pee, and he won't leave that mess for me either.
Of course, due to kids always being at the bathroom sink, the toilet lid's always closed, anyway, but still, can't guys give us girls just a little respect?

I had to offer my two cents on that subject.
With regard to the chemicals in the toilet...I only use a little bit of bleach when I clean, and I scrub the bowl, close the lid, let it soak, then come back in a few minutes and scrub it again, then flush it two or three times. Although clorine isn't good to drink, it's really not any better to breath, as it's toxic.
Dogs drinking clorinated and floridated water can have lots of problems, including incontinence. Our old dog, that died two Decembers past, had major incontinence problems the whole time we lived in town, but when we moved to the country, she got her control back. Food was the same, everything was the same, except for no longer drinking chemical-contaminated water. When I was pregnant, I was continually dehydrated because drinking that stuff, even filtered, made me sick. So if you can filter your water and keep it clean, do. Unfortunately, dogs don't always have the same appreciation for clean water that we do. Most would rather drink out of a puddle in the driveway than drink the fresh water in their bowls. Not saying it's good, just that they seem to prefer it. Oh, yes, and the toilet:-)

You're being much too logical, too demanding, too serious, and far too practical. It's not our fault... and we do it for you.
You see, first we must ask the question, "why". Why do men stand and how did this practice start? It could be as simple as, "because we can", but I think it's much deeper than that.
One theory suggests that this started back in the caveman days. We men had to keep standing guard, so as to always be ready to protect our mates. We had to be ever ready to do battle against all men and wild beasts that could cause harm and kill our tribe. If we had been caught sitting, our species may have never survived it's many wars.
Man has evolved in many ways, but circumstances have prevented us from the convenience of sitting. Think about it. As we tamed the Wild West, had the cowboy been so selfish as to sit, we would have never made it all the way to the Pacific, and had we not made it to the west, there would have never been a Disneyland.
Further, indoor bathrooms haven't existed for all that many years. Just a few decades ago, outhouses were common place, and had us men sat to pee in those days, you gals would have never got a turn.
Also, have you ever paid attention to the lines at a public restroom? Lines for the gals can be very long, yet we men seldom ever have a waiting line, it's in and out for us. Besides, if we sit, we have to read. It's near impossible to read when your hands are otherwise occupied, that's also why there are writings all over the mens room walls. It's our way of keeping up with the news without taking all day.
Having said all of that, there are some that believe there is yet a much stronger reason for these differences between the sexes.
Seems God was just about done creating the universe, but he had two extra things left in his bag of creations, so he decided to split them between Adam and Eve.
