After watching K-9 Cops, I realized there are different ways of training K-9's. I work for the federal govt., and our training is a lot different than the state and locals. The episode from last night showed a stand of spectalers watching, they utilized a long lead, which we call a 360, to search. The only time we use one is giving breaks, also the main difference is our dogs are housed in local kennels, not with us. Their reasoning is they (US govt.) have approximately $50,000 invested in these dogs and they don't want us making "pets" out of them. I kinda see their point, but my philosophy is; as long as they know when to work and when to play, it shouldn't make a difference. It hasn't with any of my dogs and trust me with this mali, she is all business!
