If we can get $300 in pledges to cover the cost of his transport, we will take him if we can get someone to pull and hold him for the transport. We will put him on the same transport to the east coas as the female t if we can get someone to pull and hold both for the transport that leaves on Dec 1st. We will pay for the transport of the female.

Shelley is going to take this handsome boy. Olga can take him 2 hrs north which is a biot past Bakersfield so we just need to get him the rest of the way to Shelley. Thank you, Shelley and Olga!!!

Guess its time to try to patch up my poor, too-lightweight runs again. Maybe Santa will bring me a couple of nice 10'x 10' Magnum kennels, ya think?

I wish Santa would bring me some too.... I bought one of the nice black powdercoated ones from TSC, and while it contains the
Houdini that is in it, I'm just not entirely sure I like it. I also have some of the AKC welded wire kennels, and my one little witchy
girl started pulling the welds off SO, I need something that will hold a grizzly bear LOL

I can't believe the number of dogs out in CA that are being dumped. What the heck is up with that? Has it always been like that?

I really don't mean to be rude or to cheapen what you are doing Shelly but why are you taking in more rescues if you do not have enough adequate spaces to keep them and are asking for donations of kennels and donations to help get x-rays taken on your facebook page? Shouldn't you get that in order before taking in more dogs or at least get registered as a rescue?

" registered as a rescue" ....Darka are you referring to a 501c3? If so are you aware that the fee to apply with the IRS is 300-750 and does not mean the person will be accepted. Along with that the rescue must INC in the state they live and have a board of directors, mission statement, fill out a 14 page application etc etc etc. There is a really nice black male at a shelter in Ca that has been there for close to a month. Im not sure why a rescue hasnt snatched him but if he doesnt get out soon he will most likely be euthed. So while we hope to have things set up, some times it just isnt possible. Oh and just so you know....I ran a rescue for 9 years.

For anyone who doesnt do rescue but comes here to see what is available, trying to get grants or ANY money for that matter is close to impossible. I'm not sure why people think that once a rescue goes 501c3, somehow it all changes. Nothing changes other than some tax writeoffs.

I wondered about the rescue not for the tax purposes or benefits but rather that someone might feel safer donating to an actual rescue. as it is now this is just someone asking for donations of chain link kennels. not saying anything is wrong with that, just people might be more comfortable if it were a legit rescue.

Dear Darka and friends,

I think its safe to say this is as non-profit an endeavor as throwing money out the window of the car at 70 mph. Most of my non-dog friends see what I do as just that...

The way I look at it, the money I would need to organize and apply for 501c3  tax-deductible status would buy at least 2 kennels, which the dogs need more than anything else RIGHT NOW!

These dogs, all snatched from the short line to the Euth Room at the VERY last minute and placed in boarding until transport could be arranged, (see my Visa statement for details) don't care if your donation is tax-deductible. They couldn't wait months for 501c3 status. So I pay tax on donations. My paltry income bracket and the donations I receive aren't big enough to make much difference in the tax bill. ;-)

Its a labor of love, and one that I am particularly capable of given my 26+ yrs background with working dogs, something I swore to do when my dog friends were helping me during a tough period in my life. I only wish I, and more people who profess to love the breed, could help more of the dogs POURING into kill shelters these days.

Shelly, bless you for all you do!  {{{HUG}}}}

I just wish all the dogs most in need of help weren't all in California. I am much too far away to do any good, other than donating what money I can spare. And this being the slowest part of the season for boarding kennels, that's not very much!
