GSDfan

I have a breeder friend who has not been too impressed with the head pieces of her recent imports. She prefers big, broad, masculine heads with a heavy appearence. Can anyone direct me towards any current studs known for consistently producing nice heads. Thanks in advance

I have a friend that has used Salo Steigerhof, for this very purpose and he said he has good results. I am considering using him, as well.

Thank you for your response SGBH, may I have contact information of his owner, and any other suggestions that may follow.

Are you talking about show-line dogs or working-line? If working-line, my stud dog Eagle has a wonderful head, and has consistantly produced this bone structure. I can send pictures of his progeny if requested. (He could probably produce this with show-line as well, but you'd get some sables! :)) http://workinggermanshepherd.com

Are you referring to working lines or show lines?...If your talking about working lines...there is a dog that I know of that has one of the biggest heads I've ever seen...he also has a correct body to go with it...His name is "Pirol vom Portnersberg"...SZ1978259...if your interested I can put you in touch with the owners...let me know!

I personally saw Eagle this past summer and he has a HUGE head!!! I have remarked on it since to several people. The pictures on her website don't show how truly large it is or how great his bone is. From what we saw he has a super temperament too.

Eagle does have a great big head, and a great temperament! We will be at Nationals in Nashville, if anyone wants to meet him in person, please look me up! I'll also have some of his pups along for the ride. Not competing, though we qualified three times, but we will enjoy watching, learning, and shopping!

For great bone, WIDE heads, dark pigment and a general robust dog with HARD character, reserach the DDR (East German) dogs. The wide large heads are standard! Although harder to find these days, the DDR dogs are out there. I myself own strictly DDR line GSDs. If you would like, email me and I will supply you with some great DDR stud dogs in Germany. One of which I have some experience with. He is V-rated and SchH III. The owner is a GREAT person and reasonable. So I say.... DDR all the way! mdmadore@verizon.net

Eagle is 1/2 DDR - and his sire (DDR) had a very nice strong head. But, so did his WGR dam, she had a huge head, bigger and stronger than many males and most females. I'm sure Eagle's head came from both sides of his pedigree - DDR and WGR.

eichenluft.. sorry to hear you won't be showing at Nationals. If we can get there I will definitely look you up. Would love to meet Eagle. I should have introduced myself when you were here for the regionals. :-((
