In December 2011 I have paid for a 4 months old male puppy advertised on pedigreedatabase from Berega Turi kennel in Russia - Oskold s Berega Turi (Sire: Eminem s Berega Turi, Dam: Ilona s Berega Turi). The puppy was supposed to be shipped as soon as possible in January. Then it’s when things got sour. The breeder kept postponing sending the dog, she was busy, she was going to dog shows, her agent was busy, and so on. In May, after 5 months of waiting, I finally gave her an ultimatum, either send the dog or return the money.

The dog finally arrived on May 27 at 10 months of age.

He arrived in very poor condition, small for his age, malnurished and emaciated. The following day I took him to my vet for a general check up and he was found with a strong Grade 3-4/6 heart murmur.

I have immediately contacted the breeder and explained the situation. Her answer was that the heart murmur was caused by the long flight and climate change and suggested I wait another month and have it checked again. From her point of view, the dog was healthy.

At that point I understood why she kept postponing shipping the puppy – she was waiting for the heart murmur to disappear!

Immediately I have booked an appointment with a cardiology specialist and the conclusions are:
- the dog has a Grade 4 prominent heart murmur caused by moderate to severe Subaortic Stenosis (SAS).
- His pulse is reduced especially in his back legs, which explains the lack of muscles.

Due to the severity of his condition, the life expectancy is anywhere between a day to a couple of years.

I have contacted her again and the answer I got was: “We do not test for heart murmur and our dogs live a long life”. That’s it. No apology, no replacement, nothing, just that her dogs live a long life.

Please don’t get fooled by the nice pictures she has on her web site. The pictures she sent of the dog were great, he looked to be in good condition. I don’t know how long it took her to get a good picture or if she altered it in any way, but I can assure you, he is far from the healthy beautiful dog he appeared to be.

Right now, she also has for sale the male's full brother, Oskar s Berega Turi. If somebody is interested in buying that dog, please be aware that that male has a full brother with severe SAS!!!!

She also got rid of the dam recently, Ilona s Berega Turi, I think she is in Egipt now.

I got some questions, please answer them!!!

·        Where are you from? Which country?
·        When you write something about a breeder and call him by name then sign with your name, so who are you?
·        Why did you buy a rottie in Russia?
·        Why did you not buy German or Austrian bloodline?

It would be nice of you to answer me these questions.
Hope it turns out good for you and your dog.
If I can be of any assistants in the future than please contact me.

With kind regards,
Ruud

Hi Ruud,

It's very nice of you to offer your help, thank you. Unfortunately there is nothing anybody can do, except for the breeder who can replace a sick dog with a healthy one.

I am from Canada and I have imported the dog because I liked the parents, the pedigree and the pictures the breeder sent. At the time of purchase I couldn't find any male in Germany or Austria that I liked. I was looking for a certain type, didn't find anything for a long time until I saw the pictures of this puppy.

I have imported from Russia before, also from other central-eastern European countries and had no problems. In fact, my young stud is from Hungary, great dog, beautiful, healthy, great temperament, love him. Also, I am originally from eastern Europe myself.

If you want to talk more, send me a message, I am more than happy to provide you pictures and more information about myself and my dogs.
