Rotti Puppy's fuzzy coat - Page 1

I recently purchased a pet quality rottweiler puppy from an award winning reputable breeder. My rotti's father recently won #1 in Argentenia. Regardless i bought a pet quality, because I have no intentions of showing, or training him for anything beyond being a pet.

He was sold as a pet quality because his fur is a little (not much) longer than his brother and sisters. However the breeder told me that as he gets older, his fur should grow in shorter, and that as an 8 week old puppy, his fur is as long as it will ever be.

I have researched the net and found numerous Long Coat Rotties, which the breeder assured me my rotti will not look like. The breeder also assured me that when my puppy is full grown, he will look like a normal short haired (or standard) rotti. And that the only reason why he was sold as a pet quality is because his fur is stil longer than his litter mates.

 What do you think? Do I have anything to be worried about? Thanks in advance. Here is a pic of him at 6 weeks old!

It may possibly be "puppy" coat in which he could grow out of. I have been involved in Rottweilers for over 15 years and have seen every kind of Rottweiler you can imagine from a wirehaired Rottie to a dwarf. Not in any of my lines. I once had a rottie that I purchased as a "show quality" puppy that had a lot of coat, the breeder was sure it would go away as she matured. By the age of 4 months her coat was still long and needless to say I returned her to the breeder. I recently obtained a female out of German lines. I got her at 4 months. She was pretty fuzzy, ut now at 6 months she has ost all her coat and her coat is normal and sleek. If you only purchaseda "pet" do not worry. It will not affect the love you will have for each other. Godd luck with your new baby

To me looking at the picture you posted, he / she will have a longer coat as an adult, you can see the longer curled hairs on the pups ears??  Some pups will have a thicker coat around the neck area and it will disappear as they get older but never curls.... like  this pup ... If you purchased the puppy as a pet, does it really matter? Although I do think the breeder should have been more honest about the fact he will most probably have a long coat. Good luck with your pup, I'm sure it will make a wonderful pet for you and your family.

I hopeI'm just being overly nervous, and my puppy's fur will not look as long when he gets this bui\\ig.

Let me clarify the type-o's in my last post.


I hope my puppy's fur will not look as long as his puppy fur does now, when he gets as big as his father. I hope his fur looks much shorter, like his fath's coater, pictured above.

Here is my dog now at 10 months.  Do you think he will be a long haired Rott, or might he lose the long fur as his breeders assured me? He has only blown his coat 1 time so far. He should start blowing his 2nd coat anyday now.

Hi For interest sake what is the mothers pedigree? It is not just the male that we need to consider. This male is a top specimen.

Both have normal/medium coats. I just dont get it, how did my puppy end up with such a fuzzy coat?

just to shed some light here. Good that you got your pup as a pet. I know this line & have seen alot of "out of standard" pups come from this line unfortunetely. I have even seen blue coats !!!!! Also white patches on the chest seams to be VERY common in this line. Not sure where you are located but canada has been poluted with this line & I have seen some weird stuff come from it. Not sure why but it is. You pup is rahter nice other than the long fur. I honestly dought it will get much shorter. None the less LOVE YOUR DOG !!!!!
