I went to look at a dog today and there was like something under its tonge looked like a blister or something it was under the tongue the owners didnt know it was there when it would pant its tongue went to the side and then you could see it. Never saw this before in my life with dogs. Anyone have suggestions of what it couldve been?

Hi I have seen what you are discribing a GSD of mine had one, it looks very much like a large fluid filled lump under the tongue, my male had it lanced by my vet and never had a problem again.

Wow thanks for the quick response. I brought the dog home so I will be making an appointment for her. This forum is very knowledgeable I have been lurking for awhile and learning alot of things.. Im hoping its nothing serious she was neglected. She will have an excellent home now. But how does that happen is it a plugged salivary gland?

I once had a dog with a plugged salivary gland, which presented kind of like that. he had the one under the tongue lanced. Only for it to return further down into the gland. Ended up having the entire gland removed, and didn't have any problems afterward.

With my dog, yes it was filled with Salival fluid, I believe that it was caused by a wood splinter puncture wound under the tongue. He loved to play with twigs.
Hope that your dog's problem is just as simple as his was.

Could be an abcess, caused by some sort of trauma to the soft tissue, like accidentally biting her tongue, or biting into something it shouldn't have. A wound that never heals properly because of either immune system problems or because it keeps getting aggravated (like from eating, drinking and having it rub against the teeth). The vet might have to lance and drain it, give a dose of antibiotics, and if the tissue still hasn't improved, he may have to cut it out completely and stitch the good skin so it will heal properly. I've seen it done before with a cat that had been brought into the vet's I worked for. He had one on his side, and it didn't look too bad at first, but when we shaved around it, we saw how nasty it was. The vet cut all the way around it, flushed it out, and sutured it. Antibiotics and fluids and was sent home the next day.
