Hello again. I have a puppy out of Darby-Dan's Werra who was bred with an American GSD. Is this list only for those who have pure German bred GSDs, or will I fit in here? Now y'all be nice! I have read some of the archived posts and you guys can be pretty ruthless. : ) Paulabelle

Yep, it can be a pretty scary place at times. My first GSD was Darby-Dan, imported sire, American line dam. As far as I know you are allowed to own American lines, but you just can't say you like them much ROFL.

Thanks for the response, Blitzen. What does "ROFL" mean? TANK (Tough as Nails Kid), my pup, is the most incredible GSD I've ever had and I've had lots, and I attribute that fact to Werra! I looked for him for a loooooooong time. I am training him for S&R and he is in obedience training, of course. He is the smartest, most well-behaved pup I've ever had. Extremely mature for his age. He is the joy of our lives! But shhhhhhhhhh ... don't say that too loud, my full-blooded Am bred who I rescued will get her feelings hurt. : ) Where are you from? Paulabelle

ROFL = rolling on floor laughing, it was a joke of sorts. Who is Werra's sire and dam? Did Smith breed your puppy? I live in the east.

It was a good joke Blitzen. I,for one, appreciated it. Paulabelle, welcome. I'm so glad you got a nice sensible pup that you love. Bud

Thanks, Bud!

Hi Paulabelle - How old is your rescued american bred gs female, and how old was the little newcomer when you brought him home? Might be getting a 4 mo. old male pup real soon, and bringing him home to meet my 9 mo. old female. (daughter of Barrus von haus Kirschental) Just trying to anticipate what's in store for me.

My rescue, Rockzee (b/c she rocks!) : ) is 4 1/2 yrs. old. TANK is now 7 mo. and was 8 wks. old when we brought him home. Besides TANK, we also have a Weimaraner, Belle, (God help us all ... a loveable brat!) who we got when Rockzee was 2 1/2 yrs. old. Rockzee is very laid back and has mothered the both of them. The fact that she was an adult when both pups came onto the property is a factor to consider. Also she never had pups, b/c I had the good sense to have her fixed at 6-mo-old, and I've always seen that my females who never had a litter will mother anything that comes along ... even cats! Since your female is still a pup, I believe they will play well together and love one another. I would introduce them on neutral ground. And when you go to pick up your pup, take an article that smells like your female, that the pup can "cuddle" as you take him to the meeting place. It would be ideal if you could do the same for the female. And at some point the male will take his place as "top dog". TANK has already done that at 7 mo. old. It drives the jealous Weim nuts, but Rockzee accepts it. And er ... did I mention I have a Great Dane I rescued too? He's a 2-yr-old Harl and the biggest baby ... TANK has alredy dominated him! Hope this helps!

Wow, and I was freaking out about 2 dogs! You've got your hands full, but it sounds like you got a nice bunch there. Thanks for your helpful response.

I'm quoting this off of Eko-lan's website. Also if you do a search on Werra on this website, it has info about her. : ) Fred & Ellen Migliore, who co-own Werra say this about her: "Darby Dan's Werra was conceived in Germany and whelped in the US. She and her sister, Darby Dan's Wanna were sired by Shanto's Xano SchH3 VA5 out of Metro's Palme SchH3 Kk1. These girls were acquired by Eko-Lan to bring in vigor and firm up nerves and ligementation. Frank and Kris Fasano now co-own both of these bitches with Eko-Lan." Unquote. Because she was bred in Germany, I have not YET found out who her breeder was. Fred is a friend to the man I bought TANK from. He loaned Werra to him to breed to Hylock's Elijah of Joelle, who is out of Ch Joelle's Alvin V Norberge CD and Hylocks I Got U Babe V Merivern. I Got You Babe was sired by Ch Asgard's Big Ben of Encore. BTW, Elijah is about to be signed over to me for full ownership. I co-owned him for awhile and he has been on the show circuit up around the Great Lakes. I will continue to try and gets him finished in this part of the country. (I live in S.W. Alabama on the Florida line, where IVAN just hit!) I'm excited about having Elijah b/c he produced such wonderful pups when he was bred to Werra. As a matter of fact, I've been thinking about trying to find another German bitch of her character to hook him up with. No pun intended! LOL OK ... so now y'all all know the scoop on Paulabelle. Bottom line ... I love my dogs and have two goals in regard to the GSD ... to continue to improve the breed in the US and rescue and place those who are picked up by local authorities b/c some idiot got ahold of them. Paulabelle <><
