I never understand this preoccupation some people have with using the registered name of the dog as it's day-to-day call name. (Unless of course it is a name that you DO like !) Choose some 'E' name for all the 'official' stuff, but call him Fenrir at home.
People do occasionally use a single letter in front of the main name, often for the purpose you suggest, so it isn't unheard of. JMO, but I think that is clumsy. I don't know whether or not doing it confuses any computerised systems anywhere ?

Bic62013 nice addition !
Here in the UK where BREEDERS name and register the litters, the owners usually do not pick an 'official' name for their puppy; new owner therefore is stuck with breeder's choice. Since the majority of people then put the dog's papers in a drawer & forget them, many people do not even remember what the pup was initially called !
[ And some ideas for the perfect registration names can be hell to call out a part of, in public also! Unpronounceable; embarassing; too many syllables, etc etc - for instance, a dog I had, born in an A litter, was named the Tolkeenesque 'Devat Adunamoir'; the breeder had renamed him 'Taz' for everyday & training purposes before he ever came to me !]
