Police Dog Attacks Woman, Refuses to Out - Page 1

I haven't seen the video, but according to the story, the dog just attacks the first person he comes by without being commanded to do so and refused to be outed.

This is not good for police k9 units. The k9 officer may have exposed himself to assault charges. The K9 team may also have to be re trained as well.

The victim of the unwarranted bite is 52 years old. In the spirit of JonRob's bitching about the "unlawful PDB ad", I find your description of the victim as an 'old woman' to be offensive!

Seriously, though, that situation stinks on ice...the taxpayers of St. Paul are getting a raw deal for their money if that's the level of skill and training the city PD is providing.

And Reliya, when was young I thought anyone 40 and up was ancient. Now that I'm old and crabby I think 52 is young. And I think the term "old" is a badge of honor. Given some of the sh*t I've been through I'm damn glad I'm old.

As for Hexe, if you'd like to know what I think of you for thinking disability discrimination and discrimination against women is just a joke, check out my last two posts on the PDB ad thread. You've got a lot of chutzpah for claiming to be "in my spirit." You couldn't be farther from it. Your post is no surprise though. Usual PDB cesspool stuff.

 

JonRob, I could not care less what you think about me, or about what I post. You don't know me from a ham sandwich, and you have no clue as to what I think about discrimination against anyone for any reason, let alone as it pertains to disabled individuals or woman, so slow your roll or get the hell out of the way.

Last I heard, no one appointed you the spokesperson for the disabled or for women, so speak for yourself, and yourself only--the rest of us can handle our business quite nicely on our own.

BM - not 'arf ! Those officers appear to have been rewarding the dog for disobeying the Out by playing tug with the poor woman like she was a bite-pillow or something.

Hundmutter, I guess they didn´t know what to do - the dog didn´t listen - the result: helpnessless.

According to the article this dog/handler team failed before.
A lot of police officers don´t know how to handle a dog, BM is spot on, sad but true.

Dogs are no machines, and dogs that learned that it´s okay to bite humans, ALWAYS are a liability. You need to doublecheck everything they may be able to do, you need to know what may happen even before it happens; to the same time your dog needs to stay in drive, willing to work...
That said, you really should know what you are doing.

In this case the handler either doesn´t know enough about dogs and their behavior, or he simply doesn´t care...

Most cops I met are very responsible, but a lot of them simply have no clue - lack of knowledge, lack of education, the wrong dog... ( although for me there is no "wrong" dog, just the wrong handler...). Some of them never handled a dog before, they can´t imagine what may happen.

As long as there is no real Nation wide mandatory training program for any dog/handler team, but police departments are able to just buy "trained" dogs, accidents like this will happen forever.

Sooner or later the classical "street dog" will vanish, not because the use of these dogs doesn´t make sense any more, but because too many "accidents" happened.

The "civil" dogs may survive in private sucurity companies, handled by profs, paid per mission.

Susie I agree with you; I'd also like to think that UK Police Dog Handlers would (a) have been less likely to have a dog going ahead of them on a long lead while walking residential streets and (b) have had a bit more about them when trying to get the dog off the victim's arm.
