This type of activity by sick, injured, or encumbered dogs and pets is well known. Presumably seeking help from humans is seen less often in wild animals but the video below shows one such case. In the case of pets, domestic animals such as cattle, or wild animals the trust level between the animals and the humans seems to be the deciding factor as to whether the animal will seek help and approach the human. In studies with crows researchers found that crows can identify individual humans and teach their offspring which ones are dangerous or not friendly to crows. The crows can recognize human faces but many wild animals likely use smell, sight, and sound to identify humans clumsily crashing about in their neighborhood. The last one is a dolphin.

This could also be the way that Wolves and Humans began their interactions...and of course the beginning of Dogs and Humans...
I love to see the natural interactions between Animals and Humans...
