I am curious about the connection between the pdb forum and the database of pedigrees, and I’d love to find out from you. Questions I’ve been pondering:

Do you enter the pedigrees of your own dogs and keep them utd?

Do you enter any other pedigrees, past or present?

Do you look up pedigrees of dogs other than your own?

How do you check for potential duplicate entries before you make an entry?

When you look up a pedigree of a present dog, how many generations do you look at?

Have you traced the pedigrees of any dog back to the foundation dogs of the breed?

Do you use the ‘Coefficient of Inbreeding’ calculator, and if so, for five or for seven generations?

When you suspect an error in an entry, do you notify an admin?

Do you check the “Latest Entries” to see what new pedigrees are being entered?

Do you use links to pdb entries on your own home page or in posts elsewhere?

Is there anything you would like us to consider or change?

Thanks to all who offer responses.

I only use the dbase in a limited way; I have put up both dogs I had in recent
years which were wholly owned by me, although I've been a bit lax about
updates. (They are now both dead, btw). Will try to remedy this !
I have never put up other ShowDogs from my mentor's kennel, unless they form
part of the ancestry of my dogs. I never put up the pedigrees of the Farm Pack,
the dogs I worked with, either (my ex-employer would not have liked that !).
Didn't make much difference in the wider scheme of things, as a mainly
'closed population'.

Yes I sometime refer to other pedigrees to trace bloodlines, I do occasional
research. Will go back as many generations as I can / are necessary. PDB
is of limited resource to me as it is very 'American registrations heavy' but a
great deal of info is available on German dogs, even when not there for later
UK or other European registrations.

Also I study some pedigrees to make sense of forum posts, on occasion.
IF I was breeding, I would use the site more, and would also use the CoEfficients;
although I would also source info through the KC and SV. I would notify the admins
if I found an error.

Yes, I sometimes check out the Latest Entries pages.
Overall I find the site very useful and very well arranged and easy to consult; I
would certainly use it more if I found it necessary for what I was involved in.

Do you enter the pedigrees of your own dogs and keep them utd? --- Yes.

Do you enter any other pedigrees, past or present?--- I have, in the past, but not since the pedigrees have had to be locked. Which I totally understand the reason for, and am in support of it having been done.

Do you look up pedigrees of dogs other than your own?--Yes, all the time. I look for dogs being discussed, dogs being advertised for sale, litters that are announced, and so forth...

How do you check for potential duplicate entries before you make an entry?--I used to search out all of the ways someone could misspell a dog's name, and checked for similar names.

When you look up a pedigree of a present dog, how many generations do you look at?-- All the way back to the 7th gen. on the initial dog, but then I'll follow the dogs in the 7th gen back individually as well.

Have you traced the pedigrees of any dog back to the foundation dogs of the breed?-- Yes, several times.

Do you use the ‘Coefficient of Inbreeding’ calculator, and if so, for five or for seven generations?-- I don't breed, but I do look at the COIs, calculated both to the 5th and the 7th

When you suspect an error in an entry, do you notify an admin? --Yes, I have and will continue to do so.

Do you check the “Latest Entries” to see what new pedigrees are being entered?-- Yes

Do you use links to pdb entries on your own home page or in posts elsewhere? Yes, I regularly link to pedigrees on here in emails and in posts here.

Is there anything you would like us to consider or change? I'm well satisfied with the database part of the site, frankly. :)

And thanks for asking, Living Fence, as well as for the work you've been doing cleaning up the database, too!

i use it a lot to research pedigrees, put test pedigrees together to see how a dog would mix and mash and look especially into the 5th and 7th generation as well as even further back.

Do you enter the pedigrees of your own dogs and keep them utd?
no, they already were online

Do you enter any other pedigrees, past or present?
no, most of the German dogs are online

Do you look up pedigrees of dogs other than your own?
A lot of times

How do you check for potential duplicate entries before you make an entry?
I don´t tend to make entries, I am no breeder, and most of the German dogs, including mine, are online

When you look up a pedigree of a present dog, how many generations do you look at?
mostly 5 - 7 , depends on my curiosity and my knowledge of the lines

Have you traced the pedigrees of any dog back to the foundation dogs of the breed?
yes

Do you use the ‘Coefficient of Inbreeding’ calculator, and if so, for five or for seven generations?
no, I am old fashioned, still use the old "linebreeding" section

When you suspect an error in an entry, do you notify an admin?
mostly not, guess, I should do so

Do you check the “Latest Entries” to see what new pedigrees are being entered?
no

Do you use links to pdb entries on your own home page or in posts elsewhere?
no

Is there anything you would like us to consider or change?
?

Ditto pretty much everything hexe said.

I noticed that the pedigree of a dog I bred was incorrect. Wrong sire named and therefore the pedigree is wrong. I informed admin, but it is still wrong.

Send me a PM with your dogs name

by Ibrahim on 13 December 2015 - 22:12

1. Yes I do
2. Did twice, reason was because two of my dogs were missing ancestors in their background, so i had to enter those dogs first.
3. Yes I do often
4. I don't check, I believe pdb tells me when I try to register a name of dog that already is in the pdb and refuses such new double entry !!!
5. It depends on what I'm looking for, sometimes I go back to the very far roots, and sometimes I look only on what 1st page of a pedigree offers.
6. Yes, many times
7. It isn't of much interest to me
8. I do only if it affects a pedigree of one of my dogs, and or its ancestors
9. No never, why would I do that ?! not of interest to me
10. Yes, all the time
11. No, not really, but if I later think of something to be added or changed I will inform you.

Request: I need to unlock few of my dogs pedigrees please

Good luck
Ibrahim
