Hello I have a question in regards to Registries as I found myself in a dilemma. I bought a mini Australian shepherd, and I wanted to show him in conformation. The breeder I bought from has the sire and dam registered with ASDR (American Stock Dog Registry) and had papers for me to register the pup, which I did. I decided to research my pup's pedigree and attempted to contact the owners/breeders of the grandsires and dams prior to receiving my official registry papers in the mail. I managed to contact the breeder of the sire's parents who had owned both the grandsire and granddam. She sent me a copy of the grandsires papers, however she had lost the granddam's papers in flood damage. However both dogs were registered with the NSDR (National Stock Dog Registry), and with some research found out the same about the other grandsire and granddam. Moving forward, I received my dog's registry papers in the mail and the grandsires and granddams registry numbers are not on it. In order to show conformation I need a 3 gen pedigree with registry numbers. I contacted ASDR to check on it and they informed me they are not allowed to put NSDR's numbers on their pedigrees. Therefore I contacted NSDR and they told me that because the owners of my dog's parents did not register with them, that I lost all rights to having any information on the dogs that are registered with them. They pretty much said I have to convince the current owners to talk to me.
So I am not sure what to do from this point. I would like to do conformation, but because registries don't apparently like each other, they withhold their information? I have attempted to contact the other owners/breeders of the dogs (the one who lost the granddam's papers even referred me to the dog's original owner), but am getting no responses. I guess I don't blame them, to have some stranger requesting info on their dogs with a sob story.
Anyone have an idea on what I should do next? I know this does not prevent me from doing other things like agility and obedience, which I plan to do, but it is kind of a disappointment to me.

But if you have several generations of names and numbers fill out a single register for your pup and that will at least get your foot in the door till you can hopefully straighten this mess out.
Good luck

I have pretty much done what I can, I guess, as far as contacting people, they just don't respond. But then again, it comes across as a strange request, so I can understand. Plus as I have found, after the dogs are gone or have passed the records seem to get slipped into storage and lost. The owners can get copies, but now I am not only convincing these owners to talk to me, but also to take extra steps and hassles to help me, which is pretty much a lot to try and ask for. I just wish there wasn't such secretiveness and spite among the registries. I even offered to pay the NSDR to register my pup with them too, as his grandparents were in their registry already and they refused saying it didn't matter...So not much else I can do....
