So sorry Michele...bummer. How old is the dog? Symptomatic or routine x-ray for certification?

elbows are displatic, that's all i can say.

The right one has an ununited anconeal process. Sucks. Are you going to try and remove it or try and reattach?

I didn't notice the positive "arrow sign" in the picture until now, but I think most can see there is something wrong regardless of it there.
She is symptomatic with limping, but still wants to get out and sprint and rough house. We have a really good ortho referal center not to far away, so I'll see what they say regarding remove vs reattach.

How old is she? Any injuries/trauma you can think of? How long has she been limping?
Unless very very young, I would not reattach. Not with that much damage already, anyway. With UAP and FCP, I'd remove the anconeal process arthroscopically if possible and have the whole joint scoped for best outcome. Whether ostectomy or osteotomy is warranted depends on several factors, one being age, but judging by the other elbow, I'd say that ship has sailed.

She is almost 1 year, no injuries. After I got her, I received an email from someone saying they had a pup with elbow dysplasia out of the same father, and that he knew of several more cases. She's been limping occationally for a couple of months. Always chalked it up to her being a rough and tumble pup, but started getting suspicious when the limp was always the same front leg.

Bummer. Does she sit with the paw slightly pointed out? Females are less prone to UAP than males- that's why I asked if you knew of any injuries. I did once own a female pup with bilateral UAP quite a few years ago. She had a sister who also had UAP Not that you can't have unilateral dysplasia- you can, but with one elbow this bad I'd expect to see the other a little worse in a case where it's totally genetic in origin, as you mention several others. Although, if she's been limping on and off that long, I suppose the damage is cumulative. Sorry for you and the pup. She's lucky to have landed with someone who is going to fix it.
