So I had to improvise, Mom.

He spent half the walk waiting for me to produce the ball to throw for him, till eventually saying 'forget it' and he carefully scanned the surf line till he found an oyster shell that was of a good size for carrying along.  It was a riot to watch him pick up smaller shells, mouth them carefully and then drop them till he found just the right fit.

He would periodically drop that shell into the surf and chase it when the waves tried to reclaim in.

If I wasn't going to play 'retrieve' then by golly he'd play it with the ocean!

I always love the way they'll make up games for themselves if their human

is too busy or distracted.  Very cute variation on the theme, and a good pic.

Becky does exatly that but with sitcks! If we forget to take something for her to play she will start bringing every tipe of sitck until she have THE stick... Your dog look so cute in that pic!
