what is need to import puppy from holand or germany

by old shatterhand on 03 May 2015 - 21:05

I remember when i brought my first puppies from Germany, all i needed then was lots of money and good stomach. After i open the crate and pull out the puppies i wanted to push them back in the crate and ship them back where they came from, that was a crap what they sent me.Importing puppies is a very risky move, especially from someone you don't know. They will never send you good puppy.Does not mean if the puppy comes from Germany or Holland that it'll be the high quality you were expecting. Here in USA is lots of good breeders and you can get better puppies than from oversees.Beside you get hips, elbows, health guarantees, from Europe you get nothing, and many things can go wrong with the puppy, like bite, dentition, and other health problems i mention before. So before you decide to import puppies from someone you don't know prepare for those unexpected, shop here in USA go to see some kennels and breeders and then decide.

There should be some local breeders that you can go and see your choice puppy for real and be able to avoid unwanted costs and trauma of traveling for the puppy.  I want to choose my puppy and see him/her first before buying.   Good luck  Nan

Waleed, as long as you don´t need "that special bloodline" or "that special son/daughter of xyz" try to buy locally. In that case you have the possibility to meet at least the dam and the pups. You are able to choose, and you are able to say "no" in case you don´t like the dog.

Importing is no rocket science, in case you really want to go this way, the European seller should know what to do ( vaccs, health test ). To avoid any problems, the best, but not the cheapest way, is to use Gradlyn Kennels or PetAir. For custums there should be a written contract stating that you are the buyer, no broker.

Again, try to find a pup within driving area, there are good dogs in the States.

Waleed -

I bought my puppy from Germany and i am very happy with what i received. The process I went through was very simple, i wired money to the breeder to cover the cost of the puppy and the transport. The breeder preferred working with a specific Transport company (Gradlyn Kennels). The transport service picked the pup up from the kennels, did all the brokerage work, breeder did all the vet work and the pup was delivered with out incident to me in Phnx. a few weeks later, my SV paper work was in the mail. I can say that cost of the puppy, the transportation and duty fees and all other exspenses where MUCH less than what most US breeders want for just a pup!!!  Another freind of mine bought a young dog from Holland and his exsperience mirrored mine. I think it just comes down to the quality of the breeder and what they are willing and experienced in doing. The downside (if i had to pick one) was that the the transport and paperwork cost more than the puppy, but my overall cost was still signifficantly less than most US breeders (including you) were willing to sell me a puppy for.

Dont get me wrong, there are some top notch breeders here in the states as well, and man you just missed out on a fantastic breeding here in Phnx (all puppies were spoken for before the breeding happened).

I've never had any problems either with breeders or sellers in Europe; however, use GRADLYN, not PetAir. PetAir was a DISASTER the last two times!!! DISASTER. With Beauty, I was told Lufthansa when it was really Delta, and a 2 day trip not a 1 day, and if Delta had not called to see if I was picking her up, I'd have thought she was lost. Second time was with 2 puppies and it was absolutely horrible from start to finish, including trip to airport not even knowing if the pups were there or still in Germany. I will never, ever, under any circumstances, use PetAir again.

It's like anything else, if you know the breeder personally, your chances of getting excellent pup ( besides unforeseen elements the breeder couldn't have known) are very good. Trust me, the " shitty" pups in a litter are sold here in US also. The reality is that there are still overall better dogs in European countries, because they have more knowledgable breeders, overall.
