I am sick & tired of shoveling out my gates over & over, all winter long, so we'll be redoing them this spring.

Looking for gates similar to these, with that bottom section. Just NOT made with chainlink.

I have found a few that had are of the dutch door type, but that won't work. I need gates like above with the snow/puppy barrier on the bottom.

Yes I've googled & searched until I'm cross-eyed, hence my reason for posting :)

Probably be cheaper for you to get some quotes from local welding shops and just have them made for you. Show 'em the picture [this page shows the chain link versions and includes the dimensions for them], tell them what your material specs are, and see what they'll come up with for a price. Even if you can find them pre-made somewhere, when you factor in shipping costs, it will still probably be less costly to get them made locally.

I have a local fencing place that will make things like that to order. Everything will be done properly: the frames will zinc coated and painted with weather-proof paint. The fencing in my kennel was mostly done in the 1970's and it is still in very good shape.

They do NOT do installation, though, which can be a huge saving on money, depending on your level of expertise...

Can't you just build it up on a deck and use regular kennel doors? That's what I did. You could just build a deck out of 6x6s and use the gates you already have. Mine was pretty cheap; I used treated floor joists and untreated pine for the decking.

Jenni,

If we were redoing the whole kennel I would as I like the concept, but I just redid the kennels 2 years ago. There's nothing wrong with the kennels or the ground/flooring, other than I just HATE HATE HATE the gate setup in the winter time.

If I haven't found what I'm looking for by the time we redo them, I'll probally just have the gates custom made locally.

I wasn't suggesting redoing the whole thing; I figured you could just raise it. Unless you already have some fancy concrete flooring and some kind of drainage system, building a deck like mine is a really cheap way to get the whole system off the ground without scrapping your existing kennels OR gates. Can you post a pic of your current set up?

My deck is 22x16 and IIRC, it was around $300 to build.

Jenni, you obviously don't get as much snow a I do! I'd need my gates raised MUCH higher than that to solve the snow problem. That's even with the main runs having a canopied walkway between them! LOL!

Yes, there are definitey times when I wish the main runs had a snow barrier the way the small runs on the east side of the kennel do!

We have 19" of snow.  My deck is about 10" off the ground. I pushed a little snow away during the major storm but it wasn't a big deal. I could still open the doors with no problem.

Regardless of the height of MY building, ANYone can build a cheap deck any height they want and just set their kennels on top. That was my point. Not whether my private building in Chicago was your ideal for a busy boarding facility in Canada.

Jenni, curious to know how you handle sanitation. I assume your dogs are pooping and peeing on the wood deck? Or do you have separate area where the dogs go to do their business?

I wish my runs were completely covered at this time of year. Winter sanitation is a huge headache in a cold climate!  Sad Smile I try to keep things clean by chipping the poop out of the snow, but inevitably, some of it gets buried, then there's a big cleanup to be done when everything finally melts!

Spring hasn't really arrived until I've been able to do that first hosing down of the runs! Teeth Smile

Jenni,

I think I will build one smaller kennel in a similar fashion to yours. Would be suitable for puppies & any visiting dogs.

However it'd be a PIA to redo my main kennel area. :)

The runs are 8x32 each & the dividers are set into the ground. I have crushed & compacted limestone with built in drains for the base.
