Stupid thing just deleted my whole freaking post!!!
Anyway, long story short, dad's dog died and we're looking for a unique urn to put him in after he's cremated. This was his heart-dog by a long shot, so trying to find something special rather than just a plain old box. A friend of ours found a black lab one that they put their 18 year old shepherd/lab in after she passed, but she looked like a black lab, and Yapper doesn't look like any normal shih tzu or yorkie, and certainly not the generic ones you'd see as statues. So yeah, any ideas would be great. I figured a community of dog-lovers would be a good place to start looking.
Here's a picture if that helps. Yapper .... 1/16/00-1/8/15

Have you tried contacting a pet cemetery? My friend's male GSD died last week, and she had him cremated by a company that specializes in pet burials. They provided an urn, several paw prints, hair clippings and a lovely certificate. The cost was not much more than it would have been if the vet had disposed of the dog's remains, and if she'd gone THAT route, she would have gotten nothing! Her dog would have been cremated along with a dozen or so other pets, and the ashes buried in a landfill.
Here's the place she went to. They have a nice selection of urns. I like the ones that allow you to put a picture of the dog on the box: http://www.thistledown.info/

Thanks Jen. It's been a rough day, for sure. Dad came in and woke me up BAWLING so I would go check and see if he really was gone - he just couldn't bare to do it himself... I felt so bad, I thought about trying CPR, but he was already getting cold and it's my understanding that if they've been gone for any amount of time there's no point in trying it. Really sad, but at least it wasn't a long, drawn out illness like Jewel had. No suffering, I don't think.
Etsy is a brilliant idea, by the way!
Sunsilver, Yapper is at the Rainbow Bridge cremation center now (through the local Humane Society, which I hatehatehate the thought of any of our animals going there alive or dead but I digress...). They have a few different things, none of them really stood out, however. http://www.nehumanesociety.org/site/PageServer?pagename=programs_Rainbow_Bridge#.VK9PQyvF80s
They have one that is a dog house and you can put the picture in the front of it, he almost got that one, but decided to try and find something better. If all else fails, he can always just order the box afterwards.
Thank you for the link though, I like some of the native american-ish ones that they have. They are creative!

I would think custom urn out of some really nice wood with a personalized inscription wouldn't be too too expensive...hell, I wonder if Dallas could make something like that...surely a local woodworker could.

Yes, something simple would be nice too - that is why my dad was leaning towards the doghouse (of the ones they had) "simple and cute" like Yapper, LOL. But then he was also thinking something like what our friends had with their dog (the statue), so I dunno.
ACTUALLY that makes me think - by boss' neighbor makes plaster cast statues... he's made a pretty cool GSD before, I wonder if he could make a little Yapper?
