The AKC website used to have a feature where you could enter a dog's name, and get its registration number, and (I think) date of birth and a few other small tidbits of info (but not its pedigree info.) It was very useful for verifying correct spelling of names, and, of course, registration numbers when entering pedigree info on the database here.
I was just at their website, and can't seem to find that feature. Does it still exist?

If you have an account with the AKC, you should be able to access that feature. It is under 'Manage Dogs', then 'Add a Dog'; I use that feature frequently to double check spelling/registration numbers/colors.

NM, I am not an AKC member as I live in Canada. The lookup feature used to be avalable to everyone.

SS, few of us mere mortals here in the US are actual 'members' of the AKC--you just have to join website, not the AKC, to get access to the look-up feature again. Can't see why they would block anyone outside of the US from doing that, since they can still make $$$ off foreign residents via purchases of official AKC 3-generation pedigrees for use in getting AKC-registered dogs their foreign registration... Let me know if you aren't permitted to do that.

Awww, thank you, Hexe! You are always so helpful! NM looked up the registration of the dog I was interested in (great-grandsire of my co-own) and he is indeed registered with AKC. So, looks like his breeder (or the guy whom I ASSUME is his breeder) who now lives just 20 minutes away from me, used to live in the U.S.
If I have any other dogs I'm curious about, I will indeed do as you suggest! 
Here's the BSP show record of the dog in question...SERIOUSLY impressive! Hope he's passed some of his genes on to Bella and her pups!

Just so that you all know AKC quoted me a $50.00/hour for researching a litter of pups that I gave them the info on. Wanted to know the address of one of the puppy owners and that is what they quoted me. Great days everyone, Nan
