Hi. Just seeing if any comments. I purchased a female German Shepherd from a kennel that says he's done with the business..He's only had the dog for about a month, he had gotten her from another kennel. So I got her home and turns out to be pregnant. The guy didn't know.so I contacted the kennel he purchased her from.he said he breed her, but wasn't sure she stuck. Just wondering didn't that mean he sold all the rights to her when he sold her .He's now asking for a stud fee.

Which guy did not know the dog was pregnant? The stud owner or the actual owner of the dog. I would ask the person you purchased the dog from if they paid a stud fee or a partial stud fee that was contigent on the confirmation of a pregnancy. And if he paid, ask for a receipt or contract. Go back to the stud owner and see what difference needs to be paid if any. But for either of them to be unsure and now to tell the new owner that he or she has to pay a stud fee is silly. There apparently was no "lien" on the dog.

Okay, so I´d contact the stud dog owner...
Fact is, there are puppies on the way. For registering the litter you need a "father", that said I´d either pay the stud dog owner, or in case the original owner already paid the stud, I´d give him the money.
In case you don´t pay, you might get trouble with registering the litter.
Good luck!

Stud owner should have already been paid the stud fee. He should sign off on the registration, unless he wasn't paid because he agreed to wait until confirmation of pregnancy to get his money. If that's the case, you should pay him the stud fee and he should sign and problem solved.

This is a complex issue..
The person who owned the bitch at the time of the breeding is the breeder...
That person, technically, is the one who needs to sign litter registration...
The owner of the stud also needs to sign the registration application.
The person who sold/gave you the now-pregnant bitch ALSO should be signing a paper, like a supplemental transfer, IF they did NOT already put the bitch's AKC papers in their name.
The only way to circumvent all of this (which is wrong by AKC rules) is to make sure your paperwork transfer date PRECEDES the date of the mating.
Do you KNOW who the stud owner is?
What is the DATE of transfer written on the BACK of the bitch's AKC papers???
WHY do people not DISCLOSE these things before they sell dogs!!! UGH, what a MESS.
