The film of the latest fence jumper is not the best but it looked like the jumper kicked a malinois and it turned and went away. It looked like more dogs later but why couldnt the dogs get him quicker?

The Mali got kicked in the head and bailed out. The second dog was a dark mali, maybe a cross. It knock the jumper down, and the guy grabbed the dog and looked like he was holding it down while he pummeled it soundly. I think the secret service needs to find a better source for their dogs. They should deffinately consult with someone with experience and expertese, someone like Gustav. At least he knows how to pick a dog with figh drive and can train it....more than whoever is advising/training the dogs/handlers who are supposed to be protecting the pres.

That is my impression but I do not know much about protection dogs.

There is no way the first dog should be qualified to guard any aspect of the White House. If dogs are trained to " engage" a man, then the expectation for the dog has to be that the man is a threat to do bodily harm. Therefore the selection and training must reflect dogs that upon meeting adversity, they meet it with equal or more intensity and not bail and run.

off topic. When is this country going to wake up? Another idiot jumps our white house fence. I do not care what his motivation was. As soon as he showed the ability to resist arrest violently he should have been shot dead. One guard should have made certain he was dead while the rest readied themselves for the possibility of an orchestrated attack. What if at the same time another man, laiden with c-4, jump the fence at the opposite side of the WH? What if a car bomb was arriving at the gate a minute after the jumper was caught. We are being tested and probed. Better dogs would be part of a better plan

Not off topic at all, gsdstudent. It's the whole point of having protection dogs there. I think the secrecy service needs to be reminded of their purpose and remind them of what is happening in the REAL world.

.  Deploying the dog is non lethal force. if you fight the dog you have ramped-up the altercation and in that situation deadly force is warrented.

Both dogs were on long leads and they both were under the control of their handlers. Am I wrong, dogs shouldn't turn and come back to their handler when told to do so? Did you want the dogs to kill the fence jumper, I see someone does think he should have just been shot? This person has jumped the fence before and is known to the Secret Service. His parents have tried to get him help as he is delusional and keeps trying to get into the White House to speak to the President about his delusions, but in this country it is not illegal to be crazy. Hopefully he will get some help after this second attempt, but even if he does he can't be forced to continue getting the help he needs.

if he jumps a fence at a high school foot field he should be nurtured. if anyone jumps the fence at the WH they should be dealt with as a national threat. We can not protect people from themselves.

Good points.
BTW, cherpuppy, the guy who tried to kill Pres Reagan was mental, but that didn't make the bullets he fired any less deadly.
