dogs had something of a fear reaction/alert out hiking, exposed a short blood trail, dogs would normally be rolling around in it smearing it all over their body. they got all spooky on it suggesting human blood (my opinion).

pool of blood with no footstep tracks leading up to it, cut an arc with random direction changes then back tracked on itself back to where it started.

reported to police,  they took statement and are investigating.

same dogs found $40 0000 worth of stolen goods + 3 other offical incidents, cool huh.

just because my dogs acted spooked wouldn't cause me to make the jump that it was human blood.  My 115 lbs Doberman heard  a lion roar and knew it was something he didn't want to mess with.  It might have been that a larger predator like a mountain lion got something and that is what they sensed and wasn't reacting to the blood in itself.  Just a thought.

I can say as fact, the blood is less than 8 hours and older than 2 hours, given the environmental conditions, my experience with animal blood trails and the fact I went down this same trail last night and it wasn't there. my dogs by tight breeding will not follow a game trail that is not fresh ie less than 10 minutes at most. there are no other footstep tracks to or from the site. it appears the vehicle went down the trail someone stepped out bleeding in one spot than staggered around stopping briefly at several points then staggered back to the source got back in the vehicle and left.

the dogs air scented the trail and as mentioned they did not do a whole body roll fest in it like they would for any game they have previously experienced, they propped and tentatively reached their noses into it and quickly withdrew several times.

I doubt from the hundreds of hours spent with my dogs that this was a game trail of an injured animal, just does not add up that way.

whatever the cops are on it and I hope whatever caused it is OK.
