Hi i saw an add for a nice showline male for sale but when i looked him up after the owner told me his registered name is" nicolas sternland" and his mother is "electra sternland" but when i look at his mother electra's page theres no photo and no others pups from her and when i looked up his page nicolas theres no litter mates and no other litters for his mother electra? is this a scam since she was whelped 2010? His add is aug 16th from a "dwatson1" thanks Jim

It's up to owner to post litter mates and progeny. Unfortunately not every owner does so

If you are serious about the dog, I would ask the seller for more information. If he is legit, he should have no problems giving you answers to the questions you will be asking. After that, if you still have doubt, I would pass on this particular dog. There are many other nice dogs being advertised. JMO

I wouldn't assume anything was wrong just because the information on siblings is not n this database, I'm sure lots of people only put up pedigrees of dogs they have for sale and have neither the time or interest to put in anything they don't have to.

Thank you for your advice..I always thought you could look up a bitch and find out on here if she had other litters or if a dog you are looking for has siblings they would be listed. I started having red flags when i thought i saw this male in other photos and then looked him up and seen no photo on the pedigree base and no soblings ano phtos of mom or other litters..Thanks

The Pedigree database isn't the be-all and end-all for German shepherds. It is not an official registry. The only way to verify if a dog is registered is to go to the appropriate breed registry, and ask. I assume these dogs are from the States? Then go to the AKC website, and enter their full registered names: http://classic.akc.org/shop/index.cfm
Scroll down until you see "Dog Lookup".
The name Nicolas Sternland produces no results, nor does Electra Sternland. These dogs are NOT registered with the American Kennel Club.
I would ask the breeder what registry they are with. There is also the Continental Kennel Club, plus numerous other registries (many just register pets or mutts, and are used by puppy mills). If the dog is from Canada, it could be registered with the Canadian Kennel Club, the official registry for all purebred dog born or imported into Canada.
The German registry is the S.V. (short for Der Verein für Deutsche Schäferhunde) but your dog would have to be born in Germany to be registered with them.
It is also quite possible the breeder has NOT bothered to register them, as that takes time AND money!

I would be extremely careful, remember if it sounds to good to be true then it probably is.

Look, let me make this clear. The pedigree database is an open source database. ANYONE can enter ANYTHING they want. So, it is possible whoever entered that data is lying through their teeth. The only way to verify it is to go to the OFFICIAL REGISTRY (in this case, it seems to be the SV) and ask THEM to verify the info. You can also ask the breeder for proof of the parent's registration and titles, and they can send you scans of that info. However there is still the possibility of fraud because they could alter it digitally.
In no way should the information on this database be taken as 100% accurate. It is only as accurate as the person posting it choses to make it. And anyone can post information, or alter pedigrees that are already posted.
Can someone familiar with the Sv registry explain to this person how to check a dog's registration? Thanks!
