Does anyone have expeience with hips tightening substantially on a young adult? Example would be a 12-14 month old dog having lax hips ... has anyone had a dog like this tighten up quite a bit by 18 months or 2 years?

No, I haven't. Do you have xrays you can post here?

I have had a few, though I don't know how substantially. You're not going to have the damage disappear, but you'll halt further damage.
Knees are not rotated properly. Those hips aren't as loose as they look, though I see lines of "medusa" on one more than the other, indicating there is/has been some laxity there. I'd say if he's a heavy, big-boned type male, clumsy almost, you may get some improvement as he matures and tightens up. I'd certainly keep him very lean and toned and avoid high impact stuff and I wouldn't count on him for your next stud dog. :(

In this case I am very sorry to say I do not think they will tighten up enough to use for breeding and only light duty for this guy. His sockets are really shallow even if they do tighten up some I do not think it would be enough for heavy work or breeding prospect. Have been there myself and have grown them up to see for myself and it was always not good enough for what I wanted. Best of luck though Nan
PS: By light duty I mean, no jumping, walks on soft ground or in pea gravel; swimming would be good; sandy walks. Not road work on asphault. Keep very lean with meat diet of some type...

So sorry for you and I can totally relate how you feel. Its kinda like you know the answer before you ask the question, but still you have hope beyond hope.
