I'm trying to breed my bitch. Great female from Kirschenstal Kennels. She is in her 13th day and I put on an old Barry White CD and they are going at it. How long

to know if the breeding worked? Any particular signs? Two grerat dogs. I just want this one litter and I would be so happy. Any info that you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

ED

I know people just "have to know", but what's the difference?  You'll know in 2 months :)  it's not that long to wait.  I never understood why people had to shoot their pregnant bitch and developing puppies with ionizing radiation just to confirm or count puppies.  I mean really, what's the difference.  They're coming out in about months time or they aren't.  You can't add to the pot, you can't subtract, or change their sex or breed in the womb.  They're there or they are not.

I know people have a million reasons to try and  rationalize it, I just never understood this need to know.  same with human babies.

30 days from the last tie; take her to your vet for ultra sound.  They should be able to tell you if she is bred or not.

Wait 63 days and if you have puppies she took, if not she didn't.  Can't change the results anyway.

One Reason to know would be so that you could change the nutrition for the bitch.

Same thing with people, they watch your nutrition and vitamin levels much closer when a woman is pregnant.

Like I said, people can rationalize anything. Your bitch should be eating well regardless of pregnancy. By the time supplementing is needed, you know. The nutritional requirements dont change much for dogs or people. Near the end maybe, like i said youll already know and during nursing. Again,/youll know. And if its such a big deal I think feeding your dog better "just in case" would be better than shooting developing pups with ionizing radiation. Most problems in people are caused by poor nutrition before pregnancy even begins and are rarely fixed by better nutrition after conception.

My friend bred her dog a month ago. She is already starting to show a bit of a belly, and her teats are sagging more than before. (This is not her first litter, so the teats were already very visible, but not drooping as much as they are now.)

Don't count your puppies until they are born ( and then 3-4 days after birth is an even better predictor of what you actually have).  Ultrasound is imperfect at best and puppies can die and be reabsorbed or mummified in some cases.  By the time x-rays work you might as well wait to see how many live births.  Ultrasound has gotten better but humans still run the machines .. my son weighed 10 pounds 3 ounces at birth .. the doctor and the ultrasound tech said we were having a 7 pound girl just two weeks earlier.  Forty days plus is the earliest I can see any real change in the female and 48-50 days is even better.

I totally agree with Zdog...you know when 55 days come and if you have bred before the bitch gives you lots of sneaky little hints. Nutrition should not be an issue and if you wormed her before you bred her, you just get ready for the 58 -65 days give or take a few...any blood or other problems Then go see a vet..

Your bitch will love you for adding cottage cheese or extra liver or good things while she is in her 64 days...If you tested your male before the act, to see if he had sperm count viable, chances are the breeding will take...if not , then you may need to have her tested called a progesterone test,  when she comes back into the next heat...if no pups again, buy another female.
