GSDtravels

Shedding season is forever when it gets this humid and I'm tired of brushing, pulling huge hair balls from what looks like a small tuft, vacuuming and chasing tumbleweeds across the floor.  A friend of mine said she got one of these and it works great, but her dog is smaller and doesn't shed nearly as much as my GSD.  It's 20 bucks that I'd rather not spend if it doesn't work or is mediocre.  Has anybody used one and if so, did it works like the "infomercial" video or did you get a different result?  Thanks in advance for any responses!

It would probably help if I posted the link, wouldn't it?  LOL

FurGO

Won't work for a shepherd.  The teeth are too close together.  There are shedding rakes made for GSDs that work well.  Similar design but longer and wider spaced teeth.  Check Hallmark k9 I would think he would have them or Elite K9

"furmigator" yellow looking "rake" with blades between teeth worked well for me and was only $20.00 I even had a post on here w/ pictures 3 years back "furmigate this" i think....

Travels,  I have used a Furminator - similar but a little cheaper, & also available on the website you

linked - on GSD coats;  I found it more helpful for long-coats, it was a bit larger / wider than the FurGo.

But I still always come back to the older-style, wider, made-in-one-piece, rakes, which originated in

Germany and then were taken up and produced by the likes of Mikki.  They work at least as well -

depending on the dog - and usually better.  Don't come with their own Shampoo etc range;  but they

are still a good bit cheaper (around half the price of Furminators in the UK @ present).

I have never found anything better than a metal Curry brush for shedding dogs. They work wonders and are really cheap

Thanks for the responses.  I've used a furminator and I didn't like it, it cuts the hair.  I currently use a rake and a slicker, along with just pulling out the tufts.  Sigh, I guess there are no miracle cures, but one thing I haven't tried is a curry.  Thanks again, it's appreciated!

If you have a grooming shop near you that does Shed-X treatments you might want to look into that.  My one female will shed terribly about a month before going into heat.  After a Shed-X, no more tufts or tumbleweeds.  It does leave her looking a bit "naked" as it takes out all of the hair that is shedding.

I have found that the product Best Shot, shampoo, conditioner and finishing spray work amazingly well of double coated breeds. But the kicker is you really need a power blower to dry the dog to take full advantage ofhow the product works.

You can order the kit online and request that your local groom shop do a bath, brush and blow out using Best Shot. Which will save you time, reduce furballs all over your yard and keep you from eating mounds of hair while it's flying around.

I groomed for 10 years and Best Shot was on of the best products i came across. I keep it on hand now that i'm retired to wash my own short coated Americna Bulldog. (Who can shed mounds of little white hairs everywhere!)

Agree with Fry about the use of power drying !

I have access to a power dryer at the do-it-yourself dog wash, I might take him in on Sunday if they're not booked.
